Makcim Fernandez Samodaiev is een Belgische cellist van Russisch-Cubaanse afkomst. Hij studeerde af aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Antwerpen met een diploma in muziekuitvoeringen – cello en specialisatie als concertistsolist.
Hij trad op in landen als België, Nederland, Frankrijk, Zwitserland, Groot-Brittannië, Zweden, Duitsland, Spanje, Roemenië, Cuba, Mexico en China en gaf concerten in gerenommeerde concertzalen zoals: BOZAR (Palais des Beaux Arts) en Flagey in Brussel, De Bijloke in Gent, De Singel in Antwerpen, België, CNA (Nationaal Centrum voor de Kunsten) en Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico-Stad.
Tijdens zijn carrière heeft hij contact met musici als: Tomas Kakuska, Alban Berg Kwartet, Alexander Ivashkin, Mijail Kugel, Renaud Capuçon, Mark Drobinsky, Natalia Pavlutskaja, Lluis Claret, Torleiff Teiden, Philippe Herreweghe, Mikhail Bezverkniy en werkt samen met dirigenten als Ovidiu Balan, Valentin Doni, Ilarion Ionescu-Galati, Victor del Torro, Valentin Uryupin, Werner Gabor en Alexandre Myrat.
Vanuit zijn interesse en passie voor kamermuziek creëerde Makcim Fernandez Samodaiev een kamermuziekserie in Aalst van 2005 tot 2011 met de Hyparxis Concerts. Daarna vestigde hij zich in 2015 in Sibiu, Roemenië, waar hij solist werd van The Sibiu State Philharmonic. Naast zijn activiteit in het Filharmonisch Orkest, creëerde hij in 2016 samen met pianiste Monica Florescu de kamermuziekserie ‘Florescu-Fernandez & Friends’ in Sibiu, ter ondersteuning van kamermuziekconcerten. Tegenwoordig is dit een cultureel centrum en een referentiepunt voor kamermuziek, met internationaal bekende artiesten uit Roemenië en daarbuiten.
Sinds 2017 werkt Makcim samen met het Sibiu Ballet Theater, waar hij samen met choreograaf Aleisha Gardner en Monica Florescu originele hedendaagse balletvoorstellingen creëerde zoals Peer Gynt (2017) met de muziek van Alfred Schnittke, Dmitri Shostakovich en zijn eigen arrangementen en composities. In 2018, het jaar van het eeuwfeest, creëerden ze de tweede originele productie ‘Fragile’ met de muziek van George Enescu.
Hij bouwde vruchtbare samenwerkingen op met het Staatstheater Radu Stanca met producties als En attendant Godot (geregisseerd door Silviu Purcarete).
In 2020, voor de 250ste verjaardag van Ludwig van Beethoven, realiseerde hij samen met pianiste Monica Florescu de integrale van Beethovens cellosonates en zette hij de samenwerking voort met acteurs van het Radu Stanca Nationaal Theater voor projecten als Beethovens liefdesbrieven en het Heiligenstadt Testament.
Fernandez Samodaiev is a Belgian cellist of Russian-Cuban origin graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with a Diploma in Music Performance – Cello and Specialization as a Concertist Soloist.
He has performed in countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Romania, Cuba, Mexico and China and has given concerts in renowned concert halls such as: BOZAR (Palais des Beaux Arts) and Flagey in Brussels, De Bijloke in Ghent, De Singel in Antwerp and CNA (National Center for the Arts) and Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
During his career he interacted with musicians such as: Tomas Kakuska, Alban Berg Quartet, Alexander Ivashkin, Mijail Kugel, Renaud Capuçon, Mark Drobinsky, Natalia Pavlutskaja, Lluis Claret, Torleiff Teiden, Philippe Herreweghe, Mikhail Bezverkniy and collaborated with conductors such as Ovidiu Balan, Valentin Doni, Ilarion Ionescu-Galati, Victor del Torro, Valentin Uryupin, Werner Gabor, and Alexandre Myrat.
Based on his interest and passion for chamber music Makcim Fernandez Samodaiev created a chamber music series in Aalst between 2005 and 2011 with Hyparxis Concerts. Afterwards he settled in Sibiu, Romania in 2015, where he became soloist of The Sibiu State Philharmonic. In addition to his activity in the Philharmonic, he created the Florescu-Fernandez & Friends Chamber Music Series in Sibiu, with pianist Monica Florescu starting from 2016. Nowadays, this series became a cultural hub and a place of reference for chamber music, having internationally renowned artists as guests, from Romania and from abroad.
Since 2017 he collaborates with the Sibiu Ballet Theater where together with the choreographer Aleisha Gardner and Monica Florescu, they created original contemporary ballet performances such as Peer Gynt (2017) with the music of Alfred Schnittke, Dmitri Shostakovich and his own arrangements and compositions. In 2018, the year of the centenary, they created the second original production ‘Fragile’ using the music of George Enescu.
He established fruitful collaborations with the State Theatre Radu Stanca with productions like En attendant Godot (directed by Silviu Purcarete).
In 2020, for the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven, he realised the integrale of Beethoven’s cello sonatas together with pianist Monica Florescu and continued the collaboration with actors from Radu Stanca National Theatre for projects like Beethoven’s love letters and The Heiligenstadt Testament.
