Rebecca Nys, 16 jaar, speelt cello sinds haar zesde. Ze is leerling van Wouter Vercruysse aan de Academie in Lebbeke. Toen ze in 2016 een jaar in de VS verbleef, volgde ze les bij Alan Black, eerste cellist van het Charlotte Symphony. Ook muziek beluisteren is een constante in het dagelijks leven van Rebecca.
Voor cello uitvoeringen heeft ze grote bewondering voor Jacqueline du Pré, Mstislav Rostropovich en Mischa Maisky. Ook al is ze het eens met de uitspraak ‘competitions are for horses, not artists’ van Bela Bartok, in 2017 nam ze deel aan de VLAMO wedstrijd en de internationale wedstrijd ‘Jeunes Talents’ in Luxemburg met een finaleplaats als beloning.
Op haar 14de studeerde Rebecca vol passie haar favoriete cello concerto van Saint-Saëns. Het is haar droom om dit met orkest uit te voeren.
Rebecca Nys, 16 years old, has been playing the cello since she was six years old. She is a student of Wouter Vercruysse at the Academy in Lebbeke. When she spent a year in the US in 2016, she took lessons with Alan Black, principal cellist of the Charlotte Symphony. Listening to music is also a constant in Rebecca’s daily life.
For cello performances she has great admiration for Jacqueline du Pré, Mstislav Rostropovich and Mischa Maisky. Although she agrees with Bela Bartok’s statement ‘competitions are for horses, not artists’, in 2017 she took part in the VLAMO competition and the international competition ‘Jeunes Talents’ in Luxembourg with a place in the final as a reward.
At the age of 14, Rebecca passionately studied her favorite Saint-Saëns cello concerto. It is her dream to perform this with an orchestra.
