De Duitse pianist Thomas Hoppe geldt als een van de meest vooraanstaande samenwerkingspianisten van zijn generatie. Hij trad op met talrijke toonaangevende instrumentalisten van deze tijd, onder wie Itzhak Perlman, Antje Weithaas, Tabea Zimmermann, Alban Gerhardt, Jens Peter Maintz en Frans Helmerson.

Hoppe werd geboren in 1971 en begon zijn muzikale opleiding in Duitsland. Hij zette zijn studie voort in de Verenigde Staten bij Lee Luvisi en voltooide zijn opleiding aan de Juilliard School in New York. Daar was hij vele jaren actief als studiepianist voor de legendarische docenten Dorothy DeLay en Itzhak Perlman.

Als pianist van het in 2003 opgerichte ATOS Trio treedt Hoppe wereldwijd op en ontving hij talrijke prijzen en onderscheidingen. Een recent hoogtepunt is de integrale live-opname van de pianotrio’s van Ludwig van Beethoven, vastgelegd in Wigmore Hall. Naast zijn activiteiten met het trio concerteert en neemt hij regelmatig op met het blazersensemble 4.1 piano windtet.

Al bijna twintig jaar is Thomas Hoppe een veelgevraagd pianopartner bij grote internationale concoursen, waaronder de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd in Brussel, het Joseph Joachim Vioolconcours in Hannover, het Indianapolis Violin Competition en het Singapore International Violin Competition.

Als actief en zeer gerespecteerd pedagoog geeft Hoppe masterclasses in pianobegeleiding en kamermuziek in heel Europa, Australië, China, Zuid-Amerika en de Verenigde Staten. Recente engagementen omvatten onder meer zijn werk als docent aan het Zhuhai Violin Festival in China en als jurylid bij de Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition (TICC).

Zijn concertpraktijk omvat tevens regelmatige samenwerkingen met gerenommeerde strijkkwartetten zoals het Shanghai Quartet, het Modigliani Quartet, het Mandelring Quartet en het Simply Quartet.

Sinds april 2018 is Thomas Hoppe hoogleraar Pianokamermuziek aan de Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen. Daarnaast doceert hij aan de Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlijn en, samen met het ATOS Trio, aan de Accademia Perosi in Biella (Italië).

German pianist Thomas Hoppe is widely regarded as one of the finest collaborative pianists of his generation. He has performed with many of today’s leading instrumentalists, including Itzhak Perlman, Antje Weithaas, Tabea Zimmermann, Alban Gerhardt, Jens Peter Maintz and Frans Helmerson.

Born in 1971, Hoppe began his musical training in Germany before continuing his studies in the United States with Lee Luvisi. He later completed his education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he served for many years as a studio pianist for the legendary teachers Dorothy DeLay and Itzhak Perlman.

As pianist of the ATOS Trio, founded in 2003, Hoppe performs internationally and has received numerous prizes and awards. A recent highlight is the release of a complete live recording of Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano trios, recorded at Wigmore Hall. In addition to his trio activities, he tours regularly and records with the wind ensemble 4.1 piano windtet.

For nearly two decades, Thomas Hoppe has been a sought-after piano partner for major international competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Hannover, the Indianapolis Violin Competition, and the Singapore International Violin Competition.

An active and highly respected pedagogue, Hoppe gives masterclasses in piano accompaniment and chamber music throughout Europe, Australia, China, South America and the United States. Recent engagements include serving as a lecturer at the Zhuhai Violin Festival in China and as a jury member at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition (TICC).

His concert activities also include regular collaborations with renowned string quartets such as the Shanghai Quartet, Modigliani Quartet, Mandelring Quartet and Simply Quartet.
Since April 2018, Thomas Hoppe has been Professor of Piano Chamber Music at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. He also teaches at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and, together with the ATOS Trio, at the Accademia Perosi in Biella, Italy.

Thomas Hoppe lives in Berlin with his family and a small dog.
