Alexander Declercq werd geboren op 25 juli 1998 in een muzikaal geïnteresseerde familie te Brugge. Al op jonge leeftijd kreeg Alexander vioollessen van zijn grootmoeder. Toen hij op 8-jarige leeftijd besliste om naar het conservatorium in Brugge te gaan verkoos hij piano boven viool en startte pianolessen bij Ann Roelens (later Timur Sergeyenia). 2 jaar later startte hij klarinet bij Filip Demeyer (later Vlad Weverbergh en Geert Baeckelandt) om zijn muzikale capaciteiten uit te breiden. Toen hij afstudeerde in het Stedelijk Conservatorium te Brugge met grootste onderscheiding voor piano (en 1 jaar later voor klarinet), en voor beide instrumenten laureaat werd, ging hij zijn weg verder in het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel in de klas van Jan Michiels. Ondertussen heeft hij ook schriftuur en hogere notenleer cursussen gevolgd bij Mattijs Van Damme, Octaaf Van Geert en Lucas de Lil. Dit jaar beëindigt Alexander zijn 2e master piano in Brussel met grootste onderscheiding en vervolgt hij zijn master klarinet bij Benjamin Dieltjens. Ondertussen doet hij nog een extra master piano in de Hochschüle für Musik und Tanz in Keulen bij Sheila Arnold.
Sinds jonge leeftijd houdt hij zich ook bezig met diverse nationale en internationale competities. Zo won hij de ‘VLAMO-wedstrijd’, kreeg hij de 2e prijs in het ‘Concours international de Piano de Liège’ en de 3e prijs in de ’Stephan De Jonghe Wedstrijd’ in Aalst. Verder behaalde hij ook prijzen in de ‘Cantabile-pianowedstrijd’. Op die manier kreeg hij de kans om over heel België in grotere en kleinere zalen op te treden.
Naast de goede coaching van zijn leerkrachten in Brussel kreeg Alexander ook les van talrijke invloedrijke docenten over de hele wereld. Hierbij zitten enkele klinkende namen zoals Jos Van Immerseel, Claire Chevalier, Hans Ryckelinck, Johan Schmidt, Abdel Rahman El-Bacha, Sergei Edelmann, Lukas Vondracek, Etienne Rappe, David Breitman, André De Groote, Klaus Hellwig, Lucas Blondeel, Markus Groh, Fabio Bidini, Gottlieb Wallisch…
Naast zich bezig te houden met zijn solocarrière houdt Alexander minstens evenveel van kamermuziek en orkestmuziek waardoor hij al in binnen- en buitenland heeft geconcerteerd (Hongarije, Frankrijk, Californië…). Zijn brede kijk op muziek houdt hem heel gemotiveerd als muzikant maar laat hem ook als mens elke dag groeien.
Alexander Declercq was born on July 25, 1998 in a musically interested family in Bruges. At a young age, Alexander received violin lessons from his grandmother. When he decided at the age of 8 to go to the conservatory in Bruges, he chose piano over violin and started piano lessons with Ann Roelens (later Timur Sergeyenia). Two years later he started clarinet with Filip Demeyer (later Vlad Weverbergh and Geert Baeckelandt) to expand his musical capacities. When he graduated from the Municipal Conservatory in Bruges with highest distinction for piano (and 1 year later for clarinet), and became a laureate for both instruments, he continued his way in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the class of Jan Michiels. In the meantime he has also followed writing and higher solfège courses with Mattijs Van Damme, Octaaf Van Geert and Lucas de Lil. This year Alexander completes his 2nd master piano in Brussels with highest honors and continues his master clarinet with Benjamin Dieltjens. In the meantime he is doing an extra master’s degree in piano at the Hochschüle für Musik und Tanz in Cologne with Sheila Arnold.
Since a young age he has also been involved in various national and international competitions. He won the “VLAMO competition”, he received the 2nd prize in the “Competition international de Piano de Liège” and the 3rd prize in the “Stephan De Jonghe Competition” in Aalst. He also won prizes in the “Cantabile Piano Competition”. In this way he got the opportunity to perform in larger and smaller venues all over Belgium.
In addition to the good coaching of his teachers in Brussels, Alexander was also taught by numerous influential teachers all over the world. In addition to his solo career, Alexander loves chamber music and orchestral music at least as much as a result of which he has already performed at home and abroad (Hungary, France, California…). His broad view on music keeps him very motivated as a musician but also makes him grow every day as a person.
