An-Sofie Perneel is in 2002 geboren. Ze begon al op vierjarige leeftijd met vioollessen bij Koen Rens aan de Stedelijke Academie van Turnhout en volgde ook kamermuzieklessen bij Marleen Ydiers aan de Kunstacademie te Wetteren.
An-Sofie is actief als orkest -en kamermuzikante, maar is ook regelmatig als soliste te horen. Zo speelde ze solo met orkesten als Spumanti Chamber Orchestra, Orfeo Chamber Orchestra, Artis Dulcedo en het Gents Universitair Symfonisch Orkest in Concertgebouw Brugge, De Bijloke in Gent en de Antwerpse Singel.
In 2019 maakte An-Sofie deel uit van Concertgebouworkest Young, het jeugdorkest van het wereldberoemde Amsterdamse Concertgebouworkest. Dirigent Pablo Heras-Casado nam 72 jonge muzikanten mee op tournee, waarbij ze werken van Glanert, Mendelssohn en Tchaikovsky in het Concertgebouw van Amsterdam en Flagey Brussel uitvoerden.
Sinds 2020 is ze verbonden aan het Youth Orchestra Flanders, waar ze in 2021 benoemd werd tot concertmeester tot 2024. Ook bij SOV Young, geleid door Martijn Dendievel, was ze concertmeester in het seizoen ’21-’22. Daarnaast is An-Sofie een graag geziene gastvioliste bij Belgische orkesten en ensembles als Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra en Ataneres Ensemble.
Als kamermuzikante speelt An-Sofie in het Tinel Ensemble dat ze samen met vijf medestudenten aan het Lemmensinstituut oprichtte in 2022. Dit flexibel ensemble is regelmatig in verschillende formaties in Belgische zalen te zien en te horen. In februari 2023 maakt ze haar debuut bij het Arte Amanti Chamber Music Festival met fagottist Jappe Dendievel, hoboïst Jonas Schoups en pianiste Kristien Devolder.
An-Sofie volgde reeds masterclasses bij verscheidene gerenommeerde violisten, waaronder Erik Schumann, Brian Lewis, Nicolas Dupont, Alexsey Semenenko, Felicity Lipman, Lukazs Blaszczyk, Lisa Jacobs, Mikhaïl Bezverkhny, Anna Podhaijska, Haruo Goto en Yoko Hoshino.
Momenteel volgt ze een bacheloropleiding viool aan de LUCA School of Arts te Leuven, bij Prof. Maximilian Lohse. Recent werd ze tot concertmeester van het Mahler Student Festival Orchestra benoemd, waarmee ze in maart 2023 de tweede symfonie van Gustav Mahler uitvoert.
Naast haar passie voor muziek, houdt An-Sofie van dansen, lezen en schilderen.
An-Sofie Perneel was born in 2002. She started violin lessons at the age of four with Koen Rens at the Municipal Academy of Turnhout and also took chamber music lessons with Marleen Ydiers at the Art Academy in Wetteren.
An-Sofie is active as an orchestral and chamber musician, but can also be heard regularly as a soloist. She has played solo with orchestras such as Spumanti Chamber Orchestra, Orfeo Chamber Orchestra, Artis Dulcedo and the Ghent University Symphonic Orchestra in Concertgebouw Bruges, De Bijloke in Ghent and the Antwerp Singel.
In 2019, An-Sofie was a member of Concertgebouworkest Young, the youth orchestra of the world-famous Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra. Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado took 72 young musicians on tour, performing works by Glanert, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Flagey in Brussels.
Since 2020 she has been affiliated with the Youth Orchestra Flanders, where she was appointed concertmaster in 2021 until 2024. She was also concertmaster at SOV Young, led by Martijn Dendievel, in the ’21-’22 season. In addition, An-Sofie is a welcome guest violinist with Belgian orchestras and ensembles such as the Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Ataneres Ensemble.
As a chamber musician, An-Sofie plays in the Tinel Ensemble, which she founded together with five fellow students at the Lemmens Institute in 2022. This flexible ensemble can be seen and heard regularly in various formations in Belgian venues. In February 2023 she will make her debut at the Arte Amanti Chamber Music Festival with bassoonist Jappe Dendievel, oboist Jonas Schoups and pianist Kristien Devolder.
An-Sofie has already taken master classes with several renowned violinists, including Erik Schumann, Brian Lewis, Nicolas Dupont, Alexsey Semenenko, Felicity Lipman, Lukazs Blaszczyk, Lisa Jacobs, Mikhaïl Bezverkhny, Anna Podhaijska, Haruo Goto and Yoko Hoshino.
She is currently following a bachelor’s degree in violin at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, with Prof. Maximilian Lohse. She was recently appointed concertmaster of the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra, with which she will perform Gustav Mahler’s second symphony in March 2023.
Besides her passion for music, An-Sofie enjoys dancing, reading and painting.
