Brecht Valckenaers (°2000, Leuven) begon als vijfjarige te drummen en volgde toen zijn eerste muzieklessen in een lokale muziekwinkel.
Enkele jaren later raakte hij echter zo geboeid door de piano thuis dat hij er kleine stukjes op begon te componeren. Van 2008 tot 2018 volgde hij pianoles in Academie de Vonk in Haasrode bij Carl Vandoorne, die hem met veel begeestering begeleidde. Op diezelfde academie volgde hij ook compositielessen bij Pieter Schuermans en Boudewijn Cox.
Hij combineerde zijn klassieke humaniora met lessen in het Jong Conservatorium in Antwerpen, waar hij kamermuziek volgde bij Nicolas Callot en Wietse Beels.
Vanaf 2016 werd hij als Jong Talent toegelaten tot het Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen in de pianoklas van Nikolaas Kende.
Sinds 2018 studeert hij voltijds aan dat conservatorium, met nog steeds Nikolaas Kende als mentor.
In 2015 werd Brecht laureaat in de middelbare graad van de Steinway Pianowedstrijd voor de Jeugd, in 2016 won hij de Cantabile Pianowedstrijd in de middelbare graad. In 2017 kreeg hij de eerste prijs in de hogere graad van de ‘Vakman’-wedstrijd van de Vlaams-Brabantse muziekacademies en werd hij ook laureaat van de Steinway Pianowedstrijd in de hogere graad. In 2018 won hij de Cantabilewedstrijd in de hogere graad. In 2019 won hij de Steinway Pianowedstrijd in de hogere graad.
Door deze wedstrijden kreeg hij meermaals de kans om als solist met orkest te spelen.
Hij kreeg ook masterclasses van o.a. Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden en Eliane Rodrigues.
Brecht is naast een solist ook een kamermusicus. Zo vormt hij een pianoduo met Simon Thielens

A few years later, however, he became so fascinated by the piano at home that he began to compose small pieces on it. From 2008 to 2018 he took piano lessons at the Academie de Vonk in Haasrode with Carl Vandoorne, who accompanied him with great enthusiasm. At the same academy he also took composition lessons with Pieter Schuermans and Boudewijn Cox.
He combined his classical humanities with lessons at the Young Conservatory in Antwerp, where he took chamber music with Nicolas Callot and Wietse Beels.
From 2016 he was admitted as a Young Talent to the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in the piano class of Nikolaas Kende.
Since 2018 he has been studying full-time at that conservatory, with Nikolaas Kende still as a mentor.
In 2015, Brecht became a middle grade laureate of the Steinway Youth Piano Competition, in 2016 he won the Cantabile Piano Competition in the middle grade. In 2017 he received the first prize in the higher degree of the ‘Craftsman’ competition of the Flemish Brabant music academies and he was also laureate of the Steinway Piano competition in the higher degree. In 2018 he won the Cantabile Competition in the higher grade. In 2019 he won the Steinway Piano Competition in the higher grade.
These competitions gave him the opportunity to play as a soloist with orchestra several times.
He also received master classes from, among others, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden and Eliane Rodrigues.
In addition to being a soloist, Brecht is also a chamber musician. For example, he forms a piano duo with Simon Thielens.
