Charlotte Van Looveren (°2011) behoort tot de opvallende jonge altviolisten van haar generatie. Met grote toewijding, muzikaliteit en maturiteit bouwt zij gestaag aan een veelbelovende carrière. In 2024 behaalde zij haar specialisatiegraad bij Karin Gutsche aan de Academie voor Muziek en Woord in Hemiksem. Momenteel vervolmaakt zij zich bij Leo De Neve en Marjolein Dispa en volgt zij de opleiding Jong Conservatorium aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen. Deze brede en doorgedreven opleiding vormt de basis van haar verfijnde techniek en expressieve speelstijl.
De voorbije jaren onderscheidde Charlotte zich op diverse nationale en internationale wedstrijden. In 2023 behaalde zij een eerste prijs op de Wedstrijd voor Jonge Solisten Stringendo en werd zij geselecteerd voor het International Chamber Music Course and Festival for Young Talents Musica Mundi. In 2024 werd zij laureaat met een tweede prijs in de regiofinale van het Prinses Christina Concours in Maastricht. In 2025 bevestigde zij deze sterke lijn met opnieuw een eerste prijs op Stringendo en een tweede prijs in de Nationale Finale van het Prinses Christina Concours in Den Haag. De jury prees haar spel als volgt: “Je ontroerde ons met oprechte intensiteit in je spel. Je weet als geen ander de muziek te kleuren op jouw altviool.”
In 2024 en 2025 vertegenwoordigde Charlotte België op het internationale Huygens Festival in Den Haag, waar zij optrad tijdens live televisie-uitzendingen. In de zomer van 2025 concerteerde zij op de Rencontres Musicales in Champéry (Zwitserland) en was zij te gast op het Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam. Haar nominatie voor de Bunschoten Jonger Talent Prijs leidde tot een live-uitvoering die werd uitgezonden op NPO 4.
Samen met haar vader, pianist David Van Looveren, vormt Charlotte een hecht en muzikaal verfijnd duo dat regelmatig optreedt in binnen- en buitenland. Als soliste vertolkte zij onder meer het Altvioolconcerto van Hoffmeister, de Romanze van Bruch, de Suite voor altviool van Vaughan Williams en Mozarts Sinfonia Concertante, in samenwerking met dirigenten als Pascale Van Os, Martijn Pepels en Rik Ghesquiere.
Daarnaast doet Charlotte waardevolle podiumervaring op bij het Waelrandt Kinderkoor+, waarmee zij meewerkte aan producties zoals De Oorlog, de kindercantate van Peter Benoit en het kerstconcert van 2025 in het Koninklijk Paleis. Zij speelt op een altviool gebouwd door de Belgische vioolbouwer Fabien Gramm.
Charlotte Van Looveren (born 2011) completed her specialization degree in 2024 with Karin Gutsche at the Academy for Music and Word in Hemiksem. She is currently further developing her studies with Leo De Neve and Marjolein Dispa and is enrolled in the Young Conservatory programme in Antwerp.
In 2023, she won First Prize at the Stringendo Competition for Young Soloists and was selected to participate in the International Chamber Music Course and Festival for Young Talents Musica Mundi. In 2024, she received Second Prize at the regional final of the Princess Christina Competition in Maastricht. In 2025, she was awarded First Prize at the Stringendo Competition for Young Soloists and Second Prize at the National Final of the Princess Christina Competition in The Hague, where the jury commented: “You moved us with the sincere intensity of your playing. You have a unique ability to colour the music on your viola.”
In 2024 and 2025, Charlotte was invited to represent Belgium at the international Huygens Festival in The Hague, with live television broadcasts. In the summer of 2025, she was invited to perform at the Rencontres Musicales festival in Champéry, Switzerland, and gave concerts at the Amsterdam Canal Festival (Grachtenfestival). Her nomination for the Bunschoten Young Talent Prize resulted in a live performance broadcast on NPO 4.
Together with her father, pianist David Van Looveren, she forms a close duo that performs regularly in Belgium and abroad. As a soloist, she has performed Hoffmeister’s Viola Concerto, Bruch’s Romance, Vaughan Williams’ Suite for Viola, and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante. She has collaborated with conductors such as Pascale Van Os, Martijn Pepels, and Rik Ghesquière.
She also gains valuable musical experience as a member of the Waelrandt Children’s Choir+, with which she has taken part in productions such as De Oorlog, Peter Benoit’s Children’s Cantata, and the 2025 Christmas concert at the Royal Palace.
Charlotte plays a viola by the Belgian maker Fabien Gramm.
