Op 14-jarige leeftijd won Elsa de Lacerda de wedstrijd Crédit Communal en trad een paar maanden later op als soliste met het Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Luik. Vervolgens sloot ze zich aan bij de klas van Endré Kleve aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel, waar ze met grote onderscheiding vijf Eerste Prijzen en Hogere Diploma’s behaalde.
Later perfectioneerde ze haar vaardigheden in de VS op het Eastern Music Festival en de Accademia Chiggiana in Siena.
Ze volgde de lessen van Walter Levin van het Lasalle Kwartet, Rainer Schmidt van het Hagen Kwartet, Heime Müller en Natalia Prischepenko van het Artemis Kwartet, Eberhard Feltz en leden van het Danel Kwartet.
Elsa de Lacerda is al 15 jaar de eerste violiste van het Alfama Kwartet en speelde op tal van prestigieuze internationale podia en festivals, waaronder Bozar, deSingel, de Philharmonie du Luxembourg, het Ambronay Festival, de Cité de La Musique, de Philharmonie de Paris, Flagey, het Orsay Museum, het Stavelot Festival, Flaneries Musicales de Reims, Artonov Festival, de Bordeaux Opera, de Dijon Opera, het Alcobaça Festival, Espinho in Portugal, de opera van Rouen, Cran Montana Festival en Racinotes in Zwitserland.
Ze werkt ook samen met de pianisten Pierre Solot, Elodie Vignon en Nathanaël Gouin, de cellisten Marie Hallynck en Kacper Nowak, de zangers Jodie Devos en Albane Carrère.
Ze nam zeven platen op voor de labels Musica Ficta, Fuga Libera, Cyprès en Harmonia Mundi, die lovende kritieken kregen van Belgische en internationale critici.
Haar nieuwste cd ‘Still Schubert’, uitgegeven door Cypres, won in 2020 het Octave de la Musique.
In 2023 verschijnt haar nieuwste album ’CHANGE’ met pianist Pierre Solot voor het Cyprès-label, elf creaties van revolutionaire en verzetsliederen en melodieën.
Tevens koestert Elsa de Lacerda al twintig jaar een andere passie, journalistiek en muziekkritiek.
Ze was 13 jaar lang producer en presentatrice bij Musiq3 – RTBF, presenteerde meermaals de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd voor viool en cello voor de Belgische televisie en radio en produceerde het programma ‘Autour de Midi’, gewijd aan concertnieuws en cd’s. Ze introduceert regelmatig concerten op het Klara Festival en Flagey en werkte mee als muziekcriticus voor Le Soir, Le Vif l’Express en ‘Table d’écoute’ op Musiq3.
Elsa de Lacerda speelt op een Florentijnse Tomaso Carcassi viool uit 1766, genereus uitgeleend door de Michaël Guttman Collection.
Winner of the Government Medal at the age of 14, Elsa de Lacerda won the Crédit Communal competition and performed a few months later as a soloist with the l’Orchestre Royal Philharmonique de Liège. She then began studying under Endré Kleve at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, from which she graduated with five Premiers Prix and Diplômes Supérieurs avec Grande Distinction. She pursued her studies at the Eastern Musical Festival in the USA and at l’Accademia Chiggiana in Siena, Italy.
She has studied with Walter Levin (LaSalle Quartet), Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet), Heime Müller, and Natalia Prischepenko (Artemis Quartet), Eberhard Feltz, and members of the Danel Quartet.
As the first violinist of the Alfama for 15 years, Elsa de Lacerda has played in many prestigious international concert halls and festivals, including Bozar, deSingel, Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Festival d’Ambronay, la Cité de la Musique, la Philharmonie de Paris, Flagey, the Musée d’Orsay, the Stavelot Festival, Flaneries Musicales de Reims, Festival Artonov, the Bordeaux Opera, the Dijon Opera, the Alcobaça, Espinho Festival in Portugal, the Rouen Opera, and the Festival de Cran-Montana et Racinotes in Switzerland.
She has collaborated with pianists Pierre Solot, Elodie Vignon, and Nathanaël Gouin, cellists Marie Hallynck and Kacper Nowak, and singers Jodie Devos and Albane Carrère.
She has recorded seven CDs under the Musica Ficta, Fuga Libera, Cyprès, and Harmonia Mundi labels, which have received critical acclaim in Belgium and abroad.
Her CD “Still Schubert,” released by Cyprès, won the Octave de la Musique award in 2020.
Her latest CD, “CHANGE,” with pianist Pierre Solot, will be released in 2023 under the Cyprès label. It features 11 new compositions based on revolutionary and resistance songs and melodies.
For the past 20 years, Elsa de Lacerda has also devoted herself to another passion, that of journalism and music criticism.
As a producer and presenter with Musiq3-RTBF for 13 years, she has presented the Queen Elisabeth Competition for violin and cello several times for Belgian radio and television and produced the program ‘Autour de Midi,’ a daily program dedicated to concert and recording news. She regularly introduces concerts at the Klara Festival and Flagey and has worked as a music critic for Le Soir, Le Vif/l’Express, and the program ‘Table d’Écoute’ on Musiq3.
Elsa de Lacerda plays a Florentine violin made by Tomaso Carcassi in 1766, generously on loan from the Michaël Guttman Collection.
