Fedor Rudin maakte zijn debuut bij de Berlin Philharmonic met een programma genaamd ‘Violin Magic’, een toepasselijke titel want hij laat het instrument werkelijk betoverend klinken. Als topvirtuoos boeit hij zijn publiek evenals de juryleden van de Premio Paganini-wedstrijd van 2018 met zijn superieure vingervaardigheid en geluidskwaliteit. Behalve dat is hij een van de meest opwindende jonge muzikale figuren van dit moment, nieuwsgierig, ruimdenkend en fantasierijk.
Hij is nu dertig en bevindt zich in een fase van grote debuten met solo-optredens in Praag, Parijs en Montreal, de Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg en Carnegie Hall in New York. Hij was te gast op de Salzburger Festspiele en het Schleswig-Holstein Muziekfestival. Hij speelde met orkesten als het Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra en het SWR Symphony Orchestra en werkte samen met dirigenten als Vladimir Jurowski, Kirill Karabits, Tomáš Netopil, Petr Popelka en Lorenzo Viotti. Fedor Rudin speelt graag klassiekers zoals het vioolconcert van Beethoven – de BBC zond zijn debuut van dit stuk uit met het Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra – maar ook minder bekende belangrijke werken zoals Szymanowski’s Vioolconcert nr. 2 of het avant-garde repertoire van zijn grootvader Edison Denisov.
Fedor Rudin is een gepassioneerd kamermuzikant die samenwerkt met prestigieuze partners als de pianisten Boris Kusnezow, Julien Libeer en Florian Noack, de cellisten Julia Hagen, Ivan Karizna en Bruno Philippe, het Pavel Haas Quartet en het Signum saxofoonkwartet.
Sinds 2022 is hij artistiek directeur van het kamermuziekfestival ‘Rencontres Musicales de Chaon’ in Frankrijk. En net zo graag neemt hij een avond de leiding van kamerorkesten over. Maar een ding dat hem onderscheidt van zijn collega’s die het ‘play & conduct’- principe in praktijk brengen, is dat hij een graad in directie behaalde. Hij assisteerde Teodor Currentzis en Philippe Jordan, dirigeerde orkesten als het Jena Philharmonic en het ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra en regisseerde in 2022 zijn eerste operaproductie, Bernstein’s West Side Story. Daarnaast werkt hij sinds oktober 2023 als professor in orkesteducatie aan de Universiteit voor Muziek en Podiumkunsten Wenen.
Fedor Rudin bespeelt de ‘ex-Viotti’ viool van Antonio Stradivari (Cremona, 1712). Het instrument wordt hem welwillend ter beschikking gesteld door het bedrijf CANIMEX INC. uit Drummondville bij Québec in Canada.
Fedor Rudin made his debut at the Berlin Philharmonic with a program called ‘Violin Magic’ – an apt title, for he truly brings out the magic of the instrument. A virtuoso of the highest order, he captivates his audience, including the jurors of the 2018 Premio Paganini competition, with his superior finger dexterity and sound quality. Yet, he is also one of today’s most exciting young musical figures. He is very much his own person: curious, open-minded, and imaginative.
At the age of 30, he is now in a phase of significant debuts: he has had solo performances in Prague, Paris, and Montreal, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and Carnegie Hall in New York; he was a guest at the Salzburg Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival; he has played with orchestras such as the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the SWR Symphony Orchestra, and collaborated with conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Kirill Karabits, Tomáš Netopil, Petr Popelka, and Lorenzo Viotti. He enjoys playing classics such as Beethoven’s Violin Concerto – the BBC broadcasted his debut of this piece with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra – as well as lesser-known important works such as Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 or the avant-garde repertoire of his grandfather Edison Denisov.
Fedor Rudin is a passionate chamber musician who collaborates with prestigious partners such as the pianists Boris Kusnezow, Julien Libeer, and Florian Noack, the cellists Julia Hagen, Ivan Karizna, and Bruno Philippe, the Pavel Haas Quartet, and the Signum saxophone quartet. Since 2022, he has been serving as the artistic director of the Rencontres Musicales de Chaon chamber music festival in France. And he is equally happy to take over the direction of chamber orchestras for the evening. But one thing that sets him apart from his colleagues who practice the ‘play & conduct’ principle is that he has earned a degree in conducting. He has assisted Teodor Currentzis and Philippe Jordan, conducted orchestras including the Jena Philharmonic and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and, in 2022, directed his first opera production, Bernstein’s West Side Story. In addition, since October 2023, he has been working as a professor in Orchestral Education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
