Als het enige strijkkwartet ooit dat zowel de Eerste Prijs als de Publieksprijs won op de driejaarlijkse Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italië (juni 2024), is het Fibonacci Quartet één van Europa’s toonaangevende jonge strijkkwartetten.
Het Fibonacci Quartet werd gevormd aan de Guildhall School of Music and Drama in Londen, en wordt momenteel gecoacht aan de Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid door Günter Pichler (primarius Alban Berg kwartet) en door de Nederlandse Strijkkwartet Academie in Amsterdam. Sinds mei 2024 worden ze vertegenwoordigd door hét Europese managementsbureau voor jong uitzonderlijk talent: “Young Classical Artist Trust (YCAT)”.
Tijdens het seizoen 2024/25 treedt het kwartet veelvuldig op in heel Europa, met concerten in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Italië, Duitsland, Nederland, België, Zwitserland, Spanje, Frankrijk en Tjechië. Ze zijn “Artists-in-Residence” bij ProQuartet in Parijs, Britten Pears Arts in Aldeburgh, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff en aan de Royal Academy of Music in Londen.
Het Fibonacci Quartet sleepte reeds talloze prijzen in de wacht, waaronder de Eerste Prijs in de Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition, de Eerste Prijs in de Cavatina Chamber Music Competition, de RPS Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award en de Eerste Prijs in de International Triomphe de l’Art Competitie in België, The Kirckman Society Award, Publieksprijs op het Schiermonnikoog Festival en Speciale Prijzen van de Sjostakovitsj Vereniging in Parijs en Peermusic in Hamburg.
Daarnaast verzorgt het kwartet regelmatig radio- en televisie-optredens, onder meer op de Nederlandse Nationale Televisie, Nederlandse Concertradio, BBC Radio 3 en RAI tv in Italië. In 2023 kregen ze de eer nauw samen te mogen werken met de Finse componiste Kaija Saariaho wat resulteerde in een opname van haar ‘Terra Memoria’ strijkkwartet in de Barbican Centre als onderdeel van de BBC Total Immersion Series.
Het Fibonacci Quartet wordt genereus ondersteund door de Escuela Reina Sofía (Madrid, ES), de Hattori Foundation (London, UK), het Cosman Keller Trust, The Frost Trust, Fondation Biermans-Lapôtre in Parijs, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff en de Royal Academy of Music in Londen.
As the only ensemble to ever win both First and Audience Prizes at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy (2024), the Fibonacci Quartet are one of Europe’s leading young string quartets.
Originally formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the Fibonacci’s are a Resident Ensemble at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid with Günter Pichler and at the Dutch String Quartet Academy in Amsterdam. Following public finals at Wigmore Hall last May, they were selected to join the Young Classical Artist Trust (YCAT) roster.
During the 2024/25 season the Quartet will perform extensively throughout Europe, including concerts in the UK, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain and France. They will undertake residencies with ProQuartet in Paris and Britten Pears Arts in Aldeburgh, as well teaching and performing at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in their position as Resident Quartet.
The Fibonacci Quartet are prolific prize winners and have received numerous awards including First Prize in the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition, First Prize in the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition, The RPS Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award, First Prize in the International Triomphe de l’Art Competition in Belgium, The Kirckman Society Award, Audience Prize at the Schiermonnikoog Festival and Special Prizes of the Shostakovich Association in Paris and Peermusic in Hamburg.
Additionally, the Quartet regularly give radio and television broadcasts including on Dutch National Television, Dutch Concert Radio, BBC Radio 3 and RAI tv, Italy. They were honoured to work closely with Kaija Saariaho on a new recording of ‘Terra Memoria’ made at the Barbican as part of the BBC Total Immersion series.
