Als het enige ensemble dat ooit zowel de Eerste als de Publieksprijs won op de Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italië (2024), is het Fibonacci Quartet een van Europa’s toonaangevende jonge strijkkwartetten.
Oorspronkelijk gevormd aan de Guildhall School of Music and Drama in Londen, zijn de Fibonacci’s resideert het kwartet nu aan de Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid met Günter Pichler en aan de Nederlandse Strijkkwartet Academie in Amsterdam. Na de openbare finale in Wigmore Hall afgelopen mei werden ze geselecteerd door de Young Classical Artist Trust (YCAT).
Tijdens het seizoen 2024/25 zal het kwartet veelvuldig optreden in heel Europa, waaronder concerten in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Italië, Duitsland, Nederland, België, Zwitserland, Spanje en Frankrijk. Ze zullen residenties hebben bij ProQuartet in Parijs en Britten Pears Arts in Aldeburgh, en lesgeven en optreden aan het Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in hun functie van Resident Quartet.
Het Fibonacci Quartet heeft talloze prijzen ontvangen, waaronder de eerste prijs in de Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition, de eerste prijs in de Cavatina Chamber Music Competition, de RPS Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award en de eerste prijs in de International Triomphe de l’Art Competitie in België, The Kirckman Society Award, Publieksprijs op het Schiermonnikoog Festival en Speciale Prijzen van de Sjostakovitsj Vereniging in Parijs en Peermusic in Hamburg.
Daarnaast geeft het Kwartet regelmatig radio- en televisie-uitzendingen, onder meer op de Nederlandse Nationale Televisie, Nederlandse Concertradio, BBC Radio 3 en RAI tv in Italië. Ze waren vereerd nauw samen te mogen werken met Kaija Saariaho aan een nieuwe opname van ‘Terra Memoria’ gemaakt in de Barbican als onderdeel van de BBC Total Immersion-serie.
Het Fibonacci Kwartet wordt genereus ondersteund door de Escuela Reina Sofía, de Hattori Foundation, de Cosman Keller Trust, The Frost Trust en Fondation Biermans-Lapôtre in Parijs.
As the only ensemble to ever win both First and Audience Prizes at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy (2024), the Fibonacci Quartet are one of Europe’s leading young string quartets.
Originally formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the Fibonacci’s are a Resident Ensemble at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid with Günter Pichler and at the Dutch String Quartet Academy in Amsterdam. Following public finals at Wigmore Hall last May, they were selected to join the Young Classical Artist Trust (YCAT) roster.
During the 2024/25 season the Quartet will perform extensively throughout Europe, including concerts in the UK, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain and France. They will undertake residencies with ProQuartet in Paris and Britten Pears Arts in Aldeburgh, as well teaching and performing at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in their position as Resident Quartet.
The Fibonacci Quartet are prolific prize winners and have received numerous awards including First Prize in the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition, First Prize in the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition, The RPS Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award, First Prize in the International Triomphe de l’Art Competition in Belgium, The Kirckman Society Award, Audience Prize at the Schiermonnikoog Festival and Special Prizes of the Shostakovich Association in Paris and Peermusic in Hamburg.
Additionally, the Quartet regularly give radio and television broadcasts including on Dutch National Television, Dutch Concert Radio, BBC Radio 3 and RAI tv, Italy.
