Gareth Lubbe, altviolist, violist en boventoonzanger, treedt op als solist en kamermusicus in heel Europa, Amerika, Afrika en Azië.
Van 2007 tot 2014 was hij eerste altviolist van het Gewandhaus Orkest in Leipzig onder leiding van Riccardo Chailly. Hij musiceert op ‘s werelds meest vooraanstaande podia zoals de Berlin Philharmonie, het Concertgebouw van Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London en Carnegie Hall in New York. Daarnaast treedt Gareth ook op als vaste artiest en docent op toonaangevende festivals in onder meer Finland, Engeland, Zuid-Korea, Japan en Brazilië.
Hij maakt deel uit van de internationale faculteit van het jaarlijkse ‘Kamermuziekfestival in Stellenbosch’ dat tot vierhonderd jonge studenten uit heel Afrika en andere delen van de wereld samenbrengt. In 2013 aanvaardde hij de functie van hoogleraar aan de Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, waar hij nu een studio met internationale altvioolstudenten leidt.

From 2007 to 2014 he was principal violist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig under Riccardo Chailly. He performs on the world’s leading stages such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York. In addition, Gareth also performs as a permanent artist and teacher at leading festivals in Finland, England, South Korea, Japan and Brazil, among others.
He is part of the international faculty of the annual Stellenbosch Chamber Music Festival, which brings together up to 400 young students from all over Africa and other parts of the world. In 2013 he accepted the position of professor at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, where he now leads a studio with international viola students.
