Gordan Nikolić werd geboren in Brus, Servië, in 1968. Hij ging op negenjarige leeftijd naar het Young Talent Institute. Hij studeerde met de hoogste lof aan de Musikhochschule Basel in de klas van Jean-Jacques Kantorow. Ook studeerde hij bij Walter Levin, Hans Werner Henze, Witold Lutoslawsky en György Kurtág waarbij hij een interesse in zowel barok- als hedendaagse muziek ontwikkelde.
Gordan Nikolić won internationale prijzen waaronder de Tibor Varga, Niccolò Paganini, Cità di Brescia en Vaclaw Huml onderscheidingen.
Na leider te zijn geweest van het Orchestre d’Auvergne, het Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, het Chamber Orchestra of Europe en het London Symphony Orchestra dirigeerde hij vaak het Chamber Orchestra of LSO, het Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, Manchester Camerata, het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, Orchestre de Lille en Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse.
Hij werd benoemd tot ‘Prince Consort Professor’ voor strijkensembles aan het Royal College of Music en werd professor aan de Guilhall School of Music in Londen, de Codarts Rotterdam en aan de Hohschule für Musik Saarbrücken.
In 2004 werd hij artistiek leider van het Nederlands Kamerorkest Amsterdam. Hij was eerste gastdirigent bij de Manchester Camerata, muzikaal leider van het Saint George Strings Chamber Orchestra in Belgrado en richtte het onafhankelijke orkest BandArt op in Spanje.
Hij trad als solist op onder dirigenten als Sir Colin Davis, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, André Previn, Daniel Harding, Myung Wung Chung, Bernard Haitink, Laurence Foster, Marc Albrecht en Jakob Kreizberg.
Gordan Nikolic bespeelt een Paul Belin uit 2016 en een Venetiaanse Petrus Guarnerius die vriendelijk is uitgeleend door een anonieme sponsor.

He is the winner of international awards, including the Tibor Varga, Niccolò Paganini, Cità di Brescia, and Vaclaw Huml prizes.
After being leader of the Orchestre d’Auvergne, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the London Symphony Orchestra, he often conducted the Chamber Orchestra of LSO, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, Manchester Camerata, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Lille and Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse.
