Hrachya Avanesyan werd in Armenië geboren en verhuisde naar België toen hij zeventien was. Hij studeerde aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussel onder leiding van Igor Oistrakh en vervolgde zijn opleiding aan de Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth bij Augustin Dumay en aan de Keulse Hochschule bij Mihaela Martin. Tijdens zijn studies aan de Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth maakte hij zich vertrouwd met kamermuziek onder leiding van het Artemis Quartet.
Avanesyan won eerste prijzen op de wedstrijden Yehudi Menuhin en Carl Nielsen.
De violist trad op met orkesten als Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Belgian National Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Gulbenkian Orchestra, National Orchestra of Lille, Warsaw Philharmonic, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Liège Philharmonic, Belgrado Philharmonic, Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic, Brussels Philharmonic, Koninklijk Vlaams Filharmonisch Orkest, Tokyo Symphony en Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Dit alles onder leiding van dirigenten als Eliahu Inbal, Marc Soustrot, Walter Weller, Lan Shui, Christopher Warren-Green, Joji Hattori, Paul Goodwin, Paul Watkins, Joana Carniero, Alexander Vedernikov, Joshua Weilerstein, Patrick Davin en Daniel Raiskin.
Hij was te horen in het Amsterdamse Concertgebouw, de Londense Wigmore Hall, Salle Gaveau en Théatre des Champs Elysées in Parijs, Santury Hall in Tokio, de Grote Zaal van het Kremlin in Moskou, de Deense Radio Concertzaal in Kopenhagen, het Nationale Auditorium in Madrid en het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten in Brussel. Avanesyan speelde met Ashley en drummer Joshua Bell in St. David’s Hall in Cardiff, met Ashley Wass in de Wigmore Hall en werkte samen met Maria João Pires, Maxim Rysanov, Andreas Brantelid, Alexander Chaushian, Lise de la Salle, Marianna Shirinyan, Lily Maisky, Natalia Gutman, Narek Hakhnazaryan op festivals.
Avanesyans discografie omvat onder meer zijn première-opname van Vieuxtemps’ Vioolconcert nr. 2 met het Liège Philharmonic Orchestra en Patrick Davin. Tevens maakte hij een album met muziek van Dvorak, opgenomen met Sinfonia Varsovia en Augustin Dumay. In 2017 werd zijn cd van R. Schumann en J. Brahms, opgenomen met Boris Brovtsyn, Diemut Poppen, Alexander Chaushian en Yevgeny Sudbin, uitgebracht op het platenlabel BIS. Ze werd uitgeroepen tot een iTunes A-List-opname en BBC’s beste kamermuziekopname van het jaar. In 2018 werd een video-opname van zijn concert met Maria João Pires uitgebracht op Imagine Clarity.
Avanesyan speelt op een J.B. Vuillaume-viool uit 1864.
Hrachya Avanesyan was born in Armenia and moved to Belgium when he was seventeen. He studied at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels under the direction of Igor Oistrakh and continued his training at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Augustin Dumay and at the Cologne Hochschule with Mihaela Martin. During his studies at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, he became familiar with chamber music under the direction of the Artemis Quartet.
Avanesyan won first prizes at the Yehudi Menuhin and Carl Nielsen competitions.
