Hobo, Oboe

Joke Vekemans begon haar muzikale reis op achtjarige leeftijd in een muzikale familie. Ze koos al snel voor de hobo om in de Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Jozef Moorsel te kunnen spelen waarin ook haar familie musiceert en deel van het bestuur uitmaakt. Haar passie voor de hobo versterkte nog toen ze in de muziekacademie van Zaventem les kreeg van Elisabeth Schollaert. Hier ontwikkelde Joke haar speeltechniek enorm.
Joke speelde heel vaak op de concerten van de muziekacademie. In de Kon. Harmonie Sint-Jozef Moorsel was ze van meet af aan de enige hoboïste van het orkest. Vanaf 2020 gaf ze hier ook hoboles en samenspel voor startende muzikanten.
Op haar achttiende vatte Joke studies aan LUCA School of Arts in Leuven aan. Onder leiding van Bram Nolf ontwikkelde haar klank en gevoelsuiting enorm. Ook deed ze veel ervaring op in het samenspelen in verschillende orkestbezettingen en ensembles.
Ze speelde in elke productie van het Lemmensinstituut mee vanaf 2020. Dit gaat over heel verschillende projecten, van kamermuziek, harmonie- en symfonisch orkest tot de Johannespassie. Hiernaast nam ze deel aan verschillende producties van het Brussels Youth Philharmonic. Vanaf november ’23 speelde ze ook mee met het Antwerps Jeugdorkest.
Ze trad in 2022 als Jong Talent op in het Kamermuziek Festival Arte Amanti.
Haar Bachelordiploma behaalde Joke in 2023 maar haar muzikale opleiding is nog lang niet afgerond. In haar eerste Masterjaar volgde ze masterclasses bij Marco Ambrosini en Joris van den Hauwe. Aan de Kunstacademie Zaventem vervolmaakt Joke zich momenteel in het bespelen van de althobo.
Joke Vekemans began her musical journey at the age of eight in a musically inclined family. She soon chose the oboe and joined the Royal Harmony Sint-Jozef Moorsel, where her family is actively involved in music and holds positions on the board. Her passion for the oboe deepened under the guidance of Elisabeth Schollaert at the music academy in Zaventem, where Joke significantly enhanced her playing technique. She frequently performed in concerts at the music academy.
In the Koninklijke. Harmonie Sint-Jozef Moorsel, she held the unique position of being the only oboist in the orchestra from the beginning. Starting in 2020, Joke began teaching oboe and ensemble playing for budding musicians. At the age of eighteen, she commenced her studies at LUCA School of Arts in Leuven. Under the mentorship of Bram Nolf, her sound and expressive abilities flourished, and she gained valuable experience in playing within diverse orchestral settings and ensembles.
Since 2020, Joke has participated in every production of the Lemmens Institute, spanning a wide range of projects, from chamber music and harmony to symphony orchestras and the St. John Passion. She has also been involved in various productions with the Brussels Youth Philharmonic and, starting in November ’23, played with the Antwerp Youth Orchestra. In 2022, she showcased her talents as a Young Talent at the Chamber Music Festival Arte Amanti.
Joke completed her Bachelor’s degree in 2023, yet her musical education is far from complete. In her first Master’s year, she attended master classes with Marco Ambrosini and Joris van den Hauwe. Currently, Joke is refining her skills in playing the cor anglais at the Zaventem Art Academy.
