Jonas Schoups werd in 2002 in Genk geboren. Hij ontdekte op zesjarige leeftijd de hobo en volgde les bij Kurt Theunissen aan de kunstacademie van Dilsen-Stokkem. Daar studeerde hij in 2019 af met grootste onderscheiding cum laude, waarvoor hij de cultuurprijs ‘Jan Latinne’ ontving. Enkele jaren na de start van zijn hobostudies begon hij eveneens met de studie van piano bij Thessy Chen.
Sinds september 2019 zette hij zijn muziekstudies verder aan de Luca School of Arts te Leuven waar hij hobo studeerde bij Bram Nolf, solo-althoboïst bij het Nationaal Orkest van België. Tijdens deze opleiding volgde hij tal van masterclasses in binnen- en buitenland bij onder andere Alexander Krimmer, Arie Van Der Beek, Emanuel Abbühl, Luk Nielandt, Philippe Tondre. Na het behalen van zijn bachelordiploma startte hij zijn masteropleiding in september 2022 aan de Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim bij Emanuel Abbühl, als onderdeel van een Erasmusuitwisseling.
In oktober 2019 werd hij laureaat van de ‘jong talent wedstrijd’ in Limburg, waarop een solo-optreden met orkest volgde. In april 2022 mocht hij een ‘Outstanding Musician Award’ in ontvangst nemen na zijn deelname aan de ‘Young Belgian Talent Competition’. Sinds november 2022 is hij eerste hoboïst en pupiteraanvoerder van het Mahler Student Festival Orchestra.
Verder deed hij orkestervaring op in orkesten als het Arte Amanti Chamber Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic en Casco Phil.
Jonas Schoups was born in Genk on September 6, 2002. When he discovered the oboe at the age of 6, he decided to take oboe lessons with the guidance of Kurt Theunissen at the art academy of Dilsen-Stokkem. There, he graduated in 2019 Summa cum Laude, for which he received the culture prize “Jan Latinne”. A few years after the start of his oboe studies, he started studying the piano with Thessy Chen as his teacher.
In September 2019 he continued his music studies at the Luca School of Arts in Leuven, where he currently studies the oboe under the supervision of Bram Nolf, solo English horn at the Belgian National Orchestra. During his studies in Leuven, Jonas followed numerous masterclasses, both at home and abroad with Alexander Krimmer, Arie Van Der Beek, Emanuel Abbühl, Luk Nielandt, Philippe Tondre …
After achieving his bachelor’s degree, he started his master’s degree in September 2022 at the “Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim” with Emanuel Abbühl, as part of an Erasmus exchange.
In October 2019 he became laureate of the young talent competition in Limburg. By winning this title he got to perform a solo performance with the orchestra. In April 2022, he received an Outstanding Musician Award after participating in the Young Belgian Talent Competition. Since November 2022 he is appointed principal oboe of the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra. Furthermore, he gained orchestral experience in various orchestras e.g. Arte Amanti Chamber Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Casco Phil …
