Julia Hamos zet haar Amerikaanse en Hongaarse roots in bij het exploreren van het repertoire, variërend van Bach tot hedendaagse componisten.
Ze studeerde af aan de Royal Academy of Music in Londen bij Christopher Elton en het Mannes College of Music in New York bij Richard Goode. Ze werd ook opgeleid door Sir András Schiff aan de Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlijn en studeert nu aan de Kronberg Academy, ondersteund door de Henle Stichting. In 2021 werkte ze samen met Daniel Barenboim in masterclasses rond Beethovens sonates voor piano solo en met strijkers. Julia verdiepte zich in György Kurtágs 8 Pieces, op. 3 samen met de componist zelf in het Budapest Music Center.
Ze is winnaar van de ‘Sterndale Bennett Prize for Romantic Music’ aan de Royal Academy of Music en de ‘Fidelman Prize for Contemporary Music’ van de Mannes School of Music in New York en behaalde de Grand Prix van de ‘International Virtuoso Competition’ in New York City.
Als solist en kamermuzikant treedt ze op in de Pierre-Boulez Saal, Berlijn, de Wigmore Hall, Londen, in New York in het Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, het Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., de Liszt Academie in Boedapest.
Ze gaf recitals en kamermuziekoptredens op het Krzyzowa Festival in Kreisau, Polen, op het Trasimeno Music Festival in Italië, op het Prussia Cove Festival in Cornwall, als onderdeel van de Verbier Festival Academy, op het Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival in Noord-Amerika. Carolina, op het Kneisel Hall Festival in Maine, in het Ravinia Steans Institute in Illinois, in Kronberg’s Chamber Music Connects the World met Tabea Zimmermann en Christian Tetzlaff.
Op uitnodiging van Sir András Schiff trad ze afgelopen seizoen op in de Building Bridges-concerten. Ze musiceerde in Wigmore Hall, Beethoven Haus Bonn, de Magyar Zene Hàz in Boedapest en de Luxembourg Philharmonie. Dit seizoen speelt ze het Ligeti Pianoconcert in de Berlijnse Boulez Saal met het Boulez Ensemble en Matthias Pintscher, evenals kamermuziek met leden van de Kronberg Academie, waaronder Tabea Zimmermann in de Zankel Hall van Carnegie Hall.
Ze voltooide een opname van de Mozart Concerti met Howard Griffiths en de Camerata Schweiz voor Alpha Classics. Ze zal een eerste solo-cd opnemen met werk van Schumann.
Julia is ook assistent in de opleiding musicologie aan de Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlijn.
Julia Hamos uses her American and Hungarian roots to explore the repertoire, ranging from Bach to contemporary composers.
She graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London with Christopher Elton and the Mannes College of Music in New York with Richard Goode. She was also trained by Sir András Schiff at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin and is now studying at the Kronberg Academy, supported by the Henle Foundation. In 2021 she collaborated with Daniel Barenboim in master classes around Beethoven’s sonatas for solo piano and with strings. Julia immersed herself in György Kurtág’s 8 Pieces, op. 3 together with the composer himself in the Budapest Music Center.
