    English version

Karel Schoofs studied with Jan De Maeyer, Luk Nielandt and Louis Gilis at the Royal Flemish Music Conservatory in Antwerp. He completed his education as the first of his year. This was followed by master classes with Jean-Lois Capezzali and Yvàn Fisher, among others.

In his early twenties, Karel played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders until he was appointed oboe solo with the National Orchestra of Belgium in 1996 under chief conductors Yuri Simonov, Mikko Franck and Walter Weller. Since 2008, Karel has been principal oboist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, where he made his debut as a soloist in works by Mozart and Bellini in 2010. He has also earned his stripes as a chambrist: Oxalys, Quatuor Danel, the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam and I solisti del Vento are just a few ensembles that are happy to call on Karels expertise. He is also a founding member of the MP21 ensemble and regularly plays at international events such as the Storioni Festival or the Schiermonnikoog Festival for Chamber Music. Since 2007 Karel has formed a musical duo with harpist Anneleen Lenaerts (Wiener Philharmoniker).
