Kristie Su, geboren in 1995, kreeg op 3-jarige leeftijd haar eerste vioollessen van haar vader, de vioolleraar Elmer Su. Toen ze 5 jaar was begon ze te studeren bij de viool- en altviool-professor Vesna Gruppman. Later zette ze haar studies verder bij Igor Gruppman, die thans concertmeester is bij het Rotterdams Filharmonisch Orkest.
Sinds jonge leeftijd is Kristie actief als soliste. In 2010 behaalde ze de 4e prijs in de Internationale Stradivarius Wedstrijd in Salt Lake City, Utah USA. Zij was de jongste deelneemster die toegelaten werd in de Internationale Carl Nielsen Viool Wedstrijd van Mei-Juni 2012, waar ze een speciale prijs kreeg. Sinds 2007 speelt ze overal ter wereld solo optredens met talrijke orkesten. Haar Europese solo debuut was in 2013 in de Grote Zaal van De Doelen in Rotterdam. Later dat jaar trad Kristie op als soliste in het jaarlijkse Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam.
Kristie speelt niet alleen als soliste met orkesten, maar maakt ook vaak deel uit van een orkest, ook als concertmeester. Ondertussen heeft ze met veel welbekende dirigenten gewerkt. Bovendien heeft ze een passie voor kamermuziek en speelt ze dikwijls in ensembles van diverse bezettingen.
Vanaf het seizoen 2019-2020 was Kristie concertmeester bij Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, en vanaf het seizoen 2023-2024 is zij concertmeester bij het Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (BE).
Kristie Su (1995) began the violin with her father and first teacher, Elmer Su, at the age of three. At age five, she began studying with violin and viola professor Vesna Gruppman. She later continued her studies with Igor Gruppman, who is currently Concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
Since an early age, Kristie has been active as a soloist. In 2010, she claimed 4th place at the International Stradivarius Competition held in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the youngest competitor to be accepted into the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition of May-June 2012, taking home a Special Prize. She has also made many solo appearances with numerous orchestras all over the world since 2007. She made her European solo debut in the Grote Zaal of de Doelen concert hall in Rotterdam (NL) in 2013. Later that same year, Kristie was featured as a soloist in the annual Gergiev Festival held in Rotterdam.
Not only does Kristie play in front of orchestras, she also plays in and leads orchestras, working with many well-known conductors. She also has a passion for chamber music and plays often in different formats.
Kristie served as concertmaster of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (BE) from 2019-2023. From season 2023-2024 onwards, she serves as concertmaster of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (BE).
