Liam Lawson werd in 2015 geboren in een muzikale familie. Al op jonge leeftijd raakte hij gefascineerd door de cello. Toen hij zes was, startte hij zijn eerste lessen bij Maria Mudrova. Een jaar later begon hij aan de Academie van Mortsel, waar hij sindsdien les volgt bij Marijke Gonnissen.
Hij nam verschillende keren deel aan de muziekstages van het Zezere Arts Festival in het Portugese Tomar. Daar werkte hij met docente Catherine Strynx en trad hij regelmatig op tijdens concerten van het festival, zowel als solist als in kamermuziekverband en orkest.
Ook tijdens de Skolnikova Summer Academy kreeg hij de kans om zich verder te verdiepen. Hij volgde er masterclasses bij onder anderen Vicky Wang, Israel Fausto en Sébastien Hurtaud en stond er op het podium tijdens diverse concertmomenten.
In 2025 behaalde Liam een finaleplaats in de categorie strijkers van de Wedstrijd voor Jonge Solisten, georganiseerd door Stringendo. De finale vond plaats in het Lemmensinstituut in Leuven.
Vandaag zet hij zijn opleiding verder aan de Academie van Mortsel bij Marijke Gonnissen. Daarnaast volgt hij sinds kort ook lessen bij Monique Heidema in Nederland, waarmee hij zijn muzikale ontwikkeling verder verbreedt.
Liam Lawson was born in 2015 into a musical family. From an early age he was drawn to the cello. He began his first lessons at the age of six with Maria Mudrova, and a year later continued his training at the Academy of Mortsel, where he still studies with Marijke Gonnissen.
He has taken part several times in the music courses of the Zezere Arts Festival in Tomar, Portugal. There he worked with Catherine Strynx and appeared regularly in the festival’s concerts, performing as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles and in the orchestra.
He further broadened his experience at the Skolnikova Summer Academy, where he attended masterclasses with Vicky Wang, Israel Fausto and Sébastien Hurtaud, and performed in a number of concerts.
In 2025 Liam reached the final of the Stringendo Competition for Young Soloists in the strings category. The final round took place at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven.
He continues his studies with Marijke Gonnissen at the Academy of Mortsel and has recently started taking additional lessons with Monique Heidema in the Netherlands.
