De Belgisch-Israëlische cellist Liav Kerbel is een belangrijke prijswinnaar op verschillende internationale concoursen. In 2023 ontving hij een vierde prijs op het ‘VII Paulo International celloconcours’ in Helsinki.
Liav werd laureaat op het ‘Classic Strings internationale celloconcours’ in Dubai in 2022 en winnaar van de ‘Eisenberg-Fried-concertwedstrijd’ van de Manhattan School of Music in 2018.
In juni 2016 maakte Liav zijn debuut in het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten van Brussel met het Brahms Dubbelconcerto, dit samen met violist Maxim Vengerov.
Enkele jaren later voerde hij Vivaldi’s Dubbelcelloconcerto uit met de eminente cellist Mischa Maisky die Liav als een ‘jonge uitzonderlijke muzikant’ omschreef.
Liav trad op voor veel invloedrijke muzikanten waaronder Renaud Capucon, Ivry Gitlis, Clive Greensmith, Frans Helmerson, Steven Isserlis, Hans Jørgen-Jensen, Gavriel Lipkind, Arto Noras, Heinrich Schiff, Ferenc Rados, Jian Wang, Uzi Wiesel, de Borromeo String Kwartet en het Talich Strijkkwartet.
Als gepassioneerd kamermuzikant heeft Liav deelgenomen aan tal van zomerfestivals, waaronder het Perlman Music Program, de kamermuziekcursus en het festival Musica Mundi, het festival MusicAlp en Verbier, de Festival Academy waar hij de ‘Prix Jean-Nicolas Firmenich’ ontving.
Sinds september 2022 is hij lid van de kamermuziekfaculteit van de Musica Mundi School in Waterloo.
Liav begon zijn muziekstudies bij professor Claudine Steenackers en professor Vladimir Perlijn. Hij behaalde een Bachelor of Music-diploma en ontving de International Advisory Bestuursbeurs aan de Manhattan School of Music bij professor Philippe Muller.
In 2021 studeerde hij af aan het New England Conservatory met een Master of Music-graad bij professor Laurence Lesser en in 2023 studeerde hij af aan de Universität Mozarteum met professor Giovanni Gnocchi. Thans is hij Artist Diploma student aan de Barenboim-Said Akademie bij professor Frans Helmerson.
Liav speelt op een instrument van Giovanni Battista Cerruti, gemaakt in Cremona in 1798, genereus toegekend dankzij een verlengde lening van de Bank DELEN in België en een particuliere donor.
Belgian-Israeli cellist Liav Kerbel is a major prizewinner at several international competitions, with his most recent achievement being 4th prize at the VII Paulo International Cello Competition in Helsinki (2023). He was also a laureate at the Classic Strings International Cello Competition in Dubai (2022) and the winner of the Manhattan School of Music’s Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition (2018).
In June 2016, Liav made his debut at the Center for Fine Arts of Brussels, performing the Brahms Double Concerto with violinist Maxim Vengerov. A few years later, he showcased his talent by performing Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto with the eminent cellist Mischa Maisky, who later described Liav as a “young exceptional musician.”
Liav has had the privilege of performing for many influential musicians, including Renaud Capucon, Ivry Gitlis, Clive Greensmith, Frans Helmerson, Steven Isserlis, Hans Jørgen-Jensen, Gavriel Lipkind, Arto Noras, Heinrich Schiff, Ferenc Rados, Jian Wang, Uzi Wiesel, the Borromeo String Quartet, and the Talich String Quartet.
As a passionate chamber musician, Liav has participated in numerous summer festivals, including the Perlman Music Program, the Musica Mundi Chamber Music Course and Festival, the Festival MusicAlp, and the Verbier Festival Academy, where he received the “Prix Jean-Nicholas Firmenich.” Since September 2022, he has served as a chamber music faculty member at the Musica Mundi School in Waterloo.
Liav began his musical studies with Prof. Claudine Steenackers and Prof. Vladimir Perlin. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree as a recipient of the International Advisory Board scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music with Prof. Philippe Muller. In 2021, he graduated from the New England Conservatory with a Master of Music degree under Prof. Laurence Lesser, and in 2023, he graduated from the Universität Mozarteum with Prof. Giovanni Gnocchi. Currently, he is an Artist Diploma student at the Barenboim-Said Akademie with Prof. Frans Helmerson.
Liav plays on an instrument by Giovanni Battista Cerruti, made in Cremona in 1798, generously granted on an extended loan from the Bank DELEN in Belgium and a private donor.
