Liza Ferschtman is een muzikale verhalenverteller die de emotionele taal van elke componist die ze vertolkt recht doet. Voor een muzikale kameleon als Liza voelt het romantische repertoire even belangrijk als het spelen of samenwerken met toonaangevende stemmen van deze tijd als Fagerlund, Zuidam, Kancheli, Lann en Wolfe. Haar grote affiniteit met Schubert en Beethoven staat pal naast een passie voor de expressionistische wereld van de vroeg 20ste-eeuwse componisten. Liza staat algemeen bekend om haar interpretaties van Bachs solo-vioolwerken en voert ze vaak uit in een marathon concert. Ze durft het aan om alle Rozenkranssonates van Biber in één uitvoering te spelen, waarbij ze minimaal zeven verschillende violen inzet.
Als concertsoliste treedt ze over de hele wereld op met toonaangevende orkesten zoals de BBC Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, de Helsinki Philharmonic en het Budapest Festival Orchestra. Dit met dirigenten als Ivan Fischer, Antonello Manacorda, John Storgards, Juraj Valcuha en Stephane Denève. Ook als dirigent-soliste werkt ze met orkesten als Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Potsdam Kammerakademie, Lapland Chamber Orchestra, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra en ORCAM Madrid.
Liza’s passie voor dans bracht haar tot een samenwerking met het dansgezelschap LeineRoebana. Op 27-jarige leeftijd werd ze tot artistiek leider van het ‘Delft Chamber Music Festival’ benoemd. Ze bouwde het festival uit tot een multi-arts jaarlijks evenement.
Opgroeien in een familie van professionele muzikanten was zeer bepalend. De keuze voor de viool was voor Liza tot haar vroege tienerjaren niet eenduidig. Maar door de zorgvuldige begeleiding van haar docenten Alla Kim en Herman Krebbers kwamen muzikaal enthousiasme en instrumentale expressie samen met als resultaat dat ze op 17-jarige leeftijd het ‘Nationaal Vioolconcours’ won.
Tijdens enkele jaren aan het Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia ontmoette ze vele muzikanten die levenslange medewerkers werden. Daarna werd David Takeno haar belangrijkste leraar in Londen en muzikale mentoren als Philippe Hirschhorn, Nobuko Imai, Walter van Hauwe, Frans Bruggen, Anner Bylsma en Elisabeth Leonskaja waren voor haar van onschatbare waarde.
Naast haar drukke leven op het podium is Liza nu zelf een veelgevraagde lerares.
In 2006 ontving Liza de ‘Nederlandse Muziekprijs’, de hoogste rijksonderscheiding voor jonge musici. In 2021 werd ze benoemd tot Officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau.

Liza is widely known for her interpretations of Bach’s solo violin works and often performs them in a marathon concert. She dares to play all of Biber’s Rosary sonatas in one performance, using at least seven different violins.
As a concert soloist, she performs all over the world with leading orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic and Budapest Festival Orchestra. Liza’s passion for dance led her to a collaboration with the dance company LeineRoebana. At the age of 27 she was appointed artistic director of the ‘Delft Chamber Music Festival’. She developed the festival into a multi-arts annual event.
Growing up in a family of professional musicians was very defining. The choice for the violin was not clear for Liza until her early teens. But thanks to the careful guidance of her teachers Alla Kim and Herman Krebbers, musical enthusiasm and instrumental expression came together, resulting in her winning the ‘National Violin Competition’ at the age of 17.
During several years at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, she met many musicians who became lifelong collaborators. David Takeno then became her most important teacher in London and musical mentors such as Philippe Hirschhorn, Nobuko Imai, Walter van Hauwe, Frans Bruggen, Anner Bylsma and Elisabeth Leonskaja were invaluable to her.
In addition to her busy life on stage, Liza is now a sought-after teacher herself.
In 2006 Liza received the ‘Nederlandse Muziekprijs’, the highest national award for young musicians. In 2021 she was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
