Maria Milstein, geboren in Moskou in een familie van muzikanten, studeerde in Amsterdam bij Ilya Grubert, in Londen bij David Takeno en aan de Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth in Waterloo (België) bij Augustin Dumay.
Maria is een prijswinnaar van grote internationale concoursen als solist zoals “Città di Brescia” en “Premio Rodolfo Lipizer” in Italië. In 2016 ontvangt Maria de Fellowship of the Borletti Buitoni Trust en in 2018 ontvangt ze de Nederlandse Muziekprijs – de hoogste erkenning voor een klassieke musicus in Nederland, uitgereikt door het Ministerie van Cultuur.
Maria treedt uitgebreid op in heel Europa in zalen zoals het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, BOZAR in Brussel, Musikverein in Wenen, de Philharmonie van Keulen en Cité de la Musique in Parijs. Ze trad op als soliste bij o.a. Het Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, het Nationaal Orkest van België, Den Haag Philharmonisch Orkest, Brussels Philharmonic en Amsterdam Sinfonietta, en werkte samen met dirigenten als Vasily Petrenko, Otto Tausk, Tomas Netopil, Michel Tabachnik, en Reinbert de Leeuw.
Maria, een fervent kamermusicus, vormt samen met pianist Hannes Minnaar en cellist Gideon den Herder, het succesvolle Van Baerle Trio. Na het winnen van de ARD-competitie in München en de Lyon Chamber Music Competition, maakte het trio in 2014 de ECHO Rising Stars Tour, waarbij het optrad in beroemde concertzalen in heel Europa. Het Trio bracht al twee CD’s uit, beide geprezen in de internationale pers, en neemt momenteel de complete werken voor pianotrio van Beethoven op.
Maria’s debuut-cd «Sounds of War», opgenomen met pianiste Hanna Shybayeva met sonates van Poulenc, Janáček en Prokofiev, won de Edison Klassiek-prijs 2015 in de categorie ‘beste kamermuziekalbum’. In 2017 verschijnt haar tweede album “La Sonate de Vinteuil”, opgenomen met pianiste Nathalia Milstein (“beste cd van 2017”). Maria en Nathalia namen in 2019 een tweede album op : “Ravel Voyageur”, dat bekroond werd met de prestigieuze Diapason d’Or.
Samen met violist Mathieu van Bellen richtte Maria MuziekHaven op, een kamermuziekcentrum gevestigd in een historische houten kerk in Zaandam (Nederland) – een plek voor kamermuziekgroepen, educatieve projecten en een opnamelocatie voor kleine formaties. Zie www.muziekhaven.com.
Maria bespeelt een viool van Michel Angelo Bergonzi (Cremona, ca. 1750), in bruikleen van de Nederlandse Muziekinstrumenten Stichting, en geeft les aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Maria is a prizewinner of major international competitions as a soloist such as “Città di Brescia” and “Premio Rodolfo Lipizer” in Italy. In 2016, Maria is awarded the Fellowship of the Borletti Buitoni Trust, and in 2018, she receives the Dutch Music Prize – the highest recognition for a classical musician in the Netherlands.
Maria performs extensively across Europe in halls such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, BOZAR in Brussels, and the Musikverein in Vienna. She has appeared as a soloist with a.o. The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, jthe Brussels Philharmonic and Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and worked with conductors such as Vasily Petrenko, Otto Tausk, Tomas Netopil, Michel Tabachnik, and Reinbert de Leeuw.
Maria, as a keen chamber musician, formed the successful Van Baerle Trio together with pianist Hannes Minnaar and cellist Gideon den Herder. After winning the ARD Competition in Munich and the Lyon Chamber Music Competition, the Trio made the ECHO Rising Stars Tour in 2014, peforming in famous concert halls all over Europe. The Trio already released two CD’s, both praised in the international press, and is presently recording the complete works for piano trio by Beethoven.

Maria plays on a violin by Michel Angelo Bergonzi (Cremona, ca. 1750), on loan from the Dutch Music Instruments Foundation, and holds a teaching position at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam.
