De veelvuldig prijswinnaar met Oekraïens-Britse roots, altviolist en dirigent Maxim Rysanov heeft zich als een van ’s werelds meest schitterende en charismatische musici geprofileerd. Als altviolist is hij vooral bekend als een geregelde gast op de grote internationale muziekscenes, zoals de BBC Last Night of the Proms en de festivals van Edinburgh, Salzburg en Verbier.
Als solist trad hij onder meer op met: het Mariinsky Orkest (Valery Gergiev), het Russich Nationaal Orkest (Mikhail Pletnev), BBC Symphony Orchestra (Jiri Belohavek), Seattle Symphony (Andrey Boreyko), Moscow Philharmonic (Yuri Simonov), Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (Philippe Herreweghe), en vele andere.
Maxim heeft ook een tweede carrière als dirigent, hetgeen hij samen met zijn opleiding voor altviool studeerde aan de Guildhall School of Music and Drama in Londen. Pas sinds de laatste jaren is hij meer en meer beginnen dirigeren. Aldus werkte hij samen met La Verdi Orchestra Milan, Basel Symphony Orchestra, Russisch Nationaal Orkest, Spaans Radio Orkest (RTVE), London Mozart Players, Kiev Soloists, Budapest Festival Academy Orchestra, Royal College of Music String Orchestra, Utrecht Festival Ensemble, en meer.
Maxim is een gedreven kamermuzikant. Daarbij zijn zijn partners onder andere Maxim Vengerov, Janine Jansen, Misha Maisky, Gidon Kremer, Nicola Benedetti, Vadim Repim, Augustin Dumay, Viktoria Mullova, Sol Gabetta, Leif Ove Andsnes en Martin Frost.
Hij is zeer geïnteresseerd in de nieuwe muziek en dat leidt tot nieuw repertoire voor de altviool. Hierdoor bracht hij wereldpremières van werk van Dobrinka Tabakova, Peteris Vasks, Richard Dubugnon en Valentin Bibik. Maxim werkt ook nauw samen met de componisten Benjamin Yusupov, Leonid Desyatnikov, Giya Kancheli, Artem Vassiliev en Elena Langer.
Maxims’ opnamen hebben veel nominaties in de wacht gesleept, zoals Gramophone Editor’s Choise, ECHO, ICMA, en Grammy, en bereikten ook de top van de iTunes lijsten in de VS.
Oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit Oekraïne, is hij woonachtig in Londen. Hij studeerde altviool bij Maria Sitkovskaya in Moskou en bij John Glickman aan de Guilhall School of Music and Drama in Londen, waar hij ook les kreeg in dirigeren van Alan Hazeldine en ook masterclasses volgde bij Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Jorma Panula en Oleg Caetani.
Hij is de gelukkige gebruiker van een Giuseppe Guadagnini altviool (1780) die hij in bruikleen heeft van het Elise Mathilde Foundation.
The multiple prize-winner with Ukrainian-British roots, viola player and conductor Maxim Rysanov has established himself as one of the world’s most beautiful and charismatic musicians. As a viola player, he is best known as a regular guest on major international music scenes such as the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms and the Edinburgh, Salzburg and Verbier festivals.

Maxim also has a second career as a conductor, which he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London along with his training for viola. Only in recent years has he started conducting more and more. Maxim is a passionate chamber musician. His partners include Maxim Vengerov, Janine Jansen, Misha Maisky, Gidon Kremer, Nicola Benedetti, Vadim Repim, Augustin Dumay, Viktoria Mullova, Sol Gabetta, Leif Ove Andsnes and Martin Frost.

Originally from Ukraine, he lives in London. He studied viola with Maria Sitkovskaya in Moscow and with John Glickman at the Guilhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he was also taught conducting by Alan Hazeldine and also took master classes with Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Jorma Panula and Oleg Caetani.
He is the lucky user of a Giuseppe Guadagnini viola (1780) on loan from the Elise Mathilde Foundation.
