De Belgische violiste Mona Verhas begon met vioolspelen toen ze vier jaar was. Na haar studies bij Koen Rens en Erik Sluys studeerde ze aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Antwerpen bij Alissa Margulis en aan de Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main bij Erik Schumann.
Mona volgde masterclasses bij grootmeesters als Midori Goto, Pavel Vernikov, Dora Schwarzberg, Renaud Capucon, Philippe Graffin, Barnabas Kelemen, Julia Fischer en Miriam Fried.
Ze behaalde de eerste prijs bij ‘International Soloist Competition’ in het Spaanse Cièza en de tweede prijs bij de ’International Knopf Competition’ te Düsseldorf. In Brussel ontving ze de eerste prijs en publieksprijs bij de ‘Rotary Breughel Competition’ en de eerste prijs bij de ‘Belfius Classics Competition’. Bij de ‘Soloist Competition Jeugd en Muziek in Antwerpen’ won ze de eerste prijs. Ook de Förderpreis bij de ‘Polytechnischer Wettbewerb HfMDK Frankfurt’ en de derde prijs en twee speciale prijzen op de ‘Bartok World Competition’ in Budapest staan op haar palmares.
Mona kreeg reeds op jonge leeftijd de kans om te soleren met orkesten als Prima La Musica in De Munt, het Brussels Philarmonic en het Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen in het Concertgebouw Brugge, het Brussels Sinfonietta in Flagey, het Oost-Vlaams Symfonisch Orkest, het AMAJ Jong Symfonisch, het GUSO en het Ensemble Orchestral de Bruxelles.
Ook concerteerde ze op talrijke kamermuziekfestivals als onder andere het West Cork Chambermusic Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival, Young Generation Concerten in BOZAR, Storioni Festival, B-Classic Festival, Festival Pietrasanta In Concerto, Brussels Chopin Days, Festival Crete Senesi.
Mona maakte als eerste violiste deel uit van het Sonoro Quartet tot eind 2021. Het kwartet werd prijswinnaar van de Bartók World Competition 2021 in Boedapest. Samen studeerden de leden aan het NSKA Amsterdam waar ze lessen volgden bij gerenommeerde muzikanten zoals leden van Quatuor Danel, Quatuor Ebène, Eberhard Feltz en Heime Müller.
Na deze periode sloeg Mona in de orkestwereld een nieuwe weg in. Na haar positie als co-aanvoerder tweede violen werd ze plaatsvervangend concertmeester bij het Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
Mona speelt op een viool van François Pique uit 1805, Parijs.
Belgian violinist Mona Verhas began playing the violin at the age of 4. After studying with Koen Rens and Erik Sluys, she pursued further education at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Alissa Margulis and at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main with Erik Schumann. Mona participated in master classes led by renowned musicians such as Midori Goto, Pavel Vernikov, Dora Schwarzberg, Renaud Capucon, Philippe Graffin, Barnabas Kelemen, Julia Fischer, and Miriam Fried.
Mona has achieved notable success in various competitions, including winning the 1st Prize at the ‘International Soloist Competition’ in Cièza, the 2nd Prize at the ‘International Knopf Competition’ in Düsseldorf, the 1st Prize and Audience Prize at the ‘Rotary Breughel Competition’ in Brussels, the 1st Prize at the ‘Soloist Competition Youth and Music Antwerp’, the 1st Prize at the ‘Belfius Classics Competition’ in Brussels, the Förderpreis at the ‘Polytechnischer Wettbewerb HfMDK Frankfurt’, and the 3rd Prize and 2 Special Prizes at the Bartok World Competition in Budapest.
Throughout her career, Mona has had the opportunity to perform as a soloist with orchestras such as ‘Prima La Musica’ in De Munt Brussels, the Brussels Philharmonic, and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra in the Concertgebouw Brugge. She has also collaborated with ensembles like the ‘Brussels Sinfonietta’ in Flagey, the ‘East Flemish Symphonic Orchestra’, the ‘AMAJ Young Symphonic’, the GUSO, and the ‘Ensemble Orchestral de Bruxelles’.
Mona’s artistry extends to chamber music, and she has participated in numerous festivals, including the ‘West Cork Chambermusic Festival’, ‘Rheingau Musik Festival’, Young Generation Concerts at BOZAR, Storioni Festival, ‘B-Classic Festival’, Festival ‘Pietrasanta In Concerto’, ‘Brussels Chopin Days’, Festival Crete Senesi, among others.
Until the end of 2021, Mona was the first violinist of the Sonoro Quartet, a prize winner of the Bartók World Competition 2021 in Budapest. The quartet also studied at the NSKA Amsterdam, receiving lessons from distinguished musicians such as members of Quatuor Danel, Quatuor Ebène, Eberhard Feltz, and Heime Müller. Following her position as co-principal 2nd violin, Mona secured the role of deputy concertmaster at the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, marking a new chapter in her orchestral career.
