Ofer Canetti is een cellist, arrangeur en kamermusicus met een veelzijdige internationale carrière die solospel, orkestpraktijk, opnameprojecten en pedagogische activiteiten omvat. Van 2019 tot 2026 was hij solo-cellist van het Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, een ensemble waarmee hij ook herhaaldelijk als solist optrad. In deze periode speelde hij een centrale rol in het artistieke profiel van het orkest: naast zijn bijdrage aan talrijke opnames schreef hij verschillende orkestraties en strijkarrangementen en was hij voorzitter van de artistieke commissie.
Als gast-solo-cellist wordt Ofer Canetti regelmatig uitgenodigd door vooraanstaande orkesten, waaronder De Munt/La Monnaie in Brussel, het Staatsorchester Stuttgart, het Musikkollegium Winterthur en het SWR Symphonieorchester. Sinds 2025 is hij lid van het Immersio Trio Vienna, waarmee hij uitgebreid door Europa toert. Met dit ensemble engageert hij zich ook maatschappelijk: in Kyiv, Oekraïne, neemt het trio deel aan een vrijwilligersproject waarbij muziek wordt ingezet als vorm van ondersteuning en veerkracht in tijden van crisis, via concerten en educatieve activiteiten.
Zijn kamermuzikale parcours omvat onder meer een lidmaatschap van het Amar Quartet en langdurige samenwerkingen met het Aviv Quartet. Als solist trad hij op met diverse orkesten in Europa, Israël, Ecuador en Georgië, waar zijn spel wordt geprezen om zijn expressieve diepgang, stilistische helderheid en muzikale verfijning.
Op discografisch vlak onderscheidt Canetti zich door een sterke betrokkenheid bij minder bekend repertoire. In 2025 verscheen zijn opname van de volledige werken voor cello van Paul Ben-Haim, gerealiseerd met de Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen onder leiding van Friederike Kienle. Deze opname werd uitgebracht op het Capriccio-label in samenwerking met SWR en Naxos Duitsland. Daarnaast werkte hij samen met het label CPO, waar in 2026 de wereldpremière-opname zal verschijnen van de volledige kamermuziek van de Oekraïense componiste Stefania Turkewich.
Ofer Canetti studeerde aan de Buchmann–Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv, de Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln en de Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. Hij kreeg er les van vooraanstaande musici en cellisten zoals Uzi Wiesel, Clemens Hagen en Hillel Zori. Naast zijn uitvoerende loopbaan is hij actief als docent: hij gaf masterclasses in onder meer Duitsland, België, Portugal en Georgië, is artistiek directeur van de Masterclasses Haliaeti in Slovenië en verzorgt jaarlijks een masterclass aan de Buchmann–Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv.
Ofer Canetti is a cellist, arranger, and chamber musician whose career bridges solo performance, orchestral leadership, recording, and education. From 2019 to 2026 he served as Principal Cellist of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, appearing with the ensemble frequently as a soloist. His work there included several recordings, orchestral and string arrangements of his own, and service as head of the orchestra’s artistic committee.
He regularly performs as guest principal cellist with leading orchestras including La Monnaie (Brussels), the Staatsorchester Stuttgart, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, and the SWR Symphonieorchester. Since 2025 he has been a member of the Immersio Trio Vienna, touring across Europe and participating in a humanitarian project in Kyiv, Ukraine, where the trio teaches and performs during times of crisis.
Earlier chamber music engagements include membership in the Amar Quartet and frequent collaborations with the Aviv Quartet. As a soloist, he has appeared with orchestras throughout Europe, Israel, Ecuador, and Georgia.
Ofer’s discography features the 2025 release of the complete works for cello by Paul Ben-Haim, recorded with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen (conductor Friederike Kienle) and released on the Capriccio label in cooperation with SWR and Naxos Germany. He has also recorded for the CPO label, and in 2026 will release the world-premiere recording of the complete chamber music of Stefania Turkewich, also on CPO.
He studied at the Buchmann–Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv, the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, and the Mozarteum University Salzburg, under the guidance of eminent musicians including Uzi Wiesel, Clemens Hagen, and Hillel Zori.
Alongside his performing career, Ofer is active as a teacher. He has given masterclasses in Germany, Belgium, Portugal, and Georgia; serves as Artistic Director of the Masterclasses Haliaeti in Slovenia; and offers an annual masterclass at the Buchmann–Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv.
