Als twintigjarige trad de Israëlische cellist Ofer Canetti op in de meeste Israëlische concertzalen en kreeg erkenning via nationale prijzen en het ontvangen van subsidies. Complementair aan zijn cello opleiding studeerde hij compositie, orkestratie en uitvoering van oude muziek.
In de volgende jaren behaalde hij diploma’s in Israël, Duitsland en Oostenrijk en had hij het voorrecht begeleiding, inspiratie en steun te krijgen van cellisten en muzikanten zoals Professor Uzi Wiesel, Professor Hillel Zori en professor Clemens Hagen.
In 2010 speelde Ofer zijn debuutrecital in Carnegie-Hall, New-York. Sinds 2019 is Ofer solocellist van het Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra waar hij tevens hoofd van de artistieke commissie is. Daarnaast treedt hij regelmatig op als arrangeur en orkestrator voor de SKO met de bedoeling het repertoire voor strijkersensembles te verbreden.
Als solist en kamermuzikant wordt hij regelmatig uitgenodigd om op te treden met orkesten over de hele wereld, op talloze festivals en concertreeksen. Ofer heeft al jarenlang een vaste plek op het Arte Amanti Festival in België. Bij al deze gelegenheden werkt Ofer samen met tal van gewaardeerde internationale artiesten.
Vanaf zeer jonge leeftijd trad hij op en toerde hij met zijn vader, de violist Robert Canetti, een rijke ervaring die hem de kunst van kamermuziekperceptie en -begrip bijbracht. De oprichting van het ‘Testore Quartet’ in 2011 vormde een van Ofers vroegere initiatieven. Met hen won hij verschillende prijzen. Hij sloot aan bij het ‘Aviv’ kwartet in 2015 voor concertreizen door Israël en Europa, waaronder concerten in Europa’s meest gerespecteerde kamermuziekreeksen in bijvoorbeeld Wigmore Hall, Londen.
Ofer was lid van het ‘Amar Quartet’ in Zwitserland, met wie hij optrad op festivals en locaties in Europa, evenals op internationale tournees.
Sinds 2020 is Ofer artistiek directeur van de jaarlijkse kamermuziekcursussen ‘Masterclasses Haliaeti’ in Izola, Slovenië.
Ofer doceert cello en kamermuziek en deelt zijn ervaringen in cursussen en in masterclasses aan universiteiten over de hele wereld. Onder andere een jaarlijkse masterclass in de muziekschool The Buchmann-Mehta van de Universiteit van Tel-Aviv, het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel, het Conservatorium van Gent, het Conservatorium van Praag en de kamermuziekvereniging van de universiteiten van Zürich.
In het concertseizoen 2023-2024 neemt Ofer de volledige werken voor cello van Paul Ben-Haim (1897-1984) op in een productie van SWR radio in Duitsland in samenwerking met platenlabel Capriccio in Wenen.
By the age of 20, the award-winning Israeli cellist Ofer Canetti had performed in most of Israel’s concert halls and series, gaining recognition through national prizes and grants. Complementary to his cello development, he studied composition, orchestration, and early music performance.
In the following years, he completed his degrees in Israel, Germany, and Austria, receiving guidance, inspiration, and support from some of the world’s most acclaimed cellists and musicians, including Prof. Uzi Wiesel, Prof. Hillel Zori, and Prof. Clemens Hagen. In 2010, Ofer performed his debut recital at Carnegie Hall in New York. Since 2019, he has been the solo cellist of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, also serving as the head of the artistic committee. He is regularly featured as an arranger and orchestrator for the SKO with the goal of expanding the repertoire for string ensembles.
As a soloist and chamber musician, he is regularly invited to perform with orchestras worldwide, participating in numerous festivals and concert series. Notably, Ofer has been a resident cellist at the Arte Amanti Festival in Belgium for many years, collaborating with numerous esteemed international artists.
From a young age, he performed and toured with his father, the violinist Robert Canetti, shaping his understanding of the art of chamber music. Past activities include founding the “Testore Quartet” (2011), winning several prizes. He joined the “Aviv” Quartet (2015) for concert tours around Israel and Europe, including performances in respected chamber music series like the Wigmore Hall in London. Ofer was a member of the highly acclaimed “Amar Quartet” in Switzerland, regularly performing in festivals and venues across Europe and international tours. Since 2020, Ofer has been the artistic director of the annual chamber music courses “Masterclasses Haliaeti” in Izola, Slovenia.
Dedicated to teaching cello playing and chamber music performance, Ofer shares his experiences through courses and masterclasses in universities worldwide. This includes a yearly masterclass at The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv University, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Ghent Conservatory, Prague Conservatory, and the chamber music association of the Zurich Universities.
In the 2023-2024 concert season, Ofer is recording the complete works for cello by Paul Ben-Haim (1897-1984) in collaboration with SWR radio in Germany and Capriccio record label Vienna.
