Het Ryelandt Trio, opvolger van het Trio Telepatico, werd in 2009 opgericht in Brugge. Al van bij het begin won het ensemble nationale en internationale wedstrijden. Zo werden ze laureaat van de Vlamo-Wedstijd, het Europese Muziekfestival voor de Jeugd en Belfius Classics. Recent won het trio een eerste prijs op het Concours International Léopold Bellan in Parijs, een tweede prijs op de France Music Competition, en de publieksprijs op de Supernova wedstrijd in deSingel.
Verder worden ze op regelmatige basis gecoacht door experten in het werkveld zoals Arco Baleno, Storioni Trio, Benjamin Glorieux, Guy Danel en Claire Chevallier.
Het Ryelandt Ensemble verankerde zich in het muzikaal landschap door het brengen van interessante en boeiende programma’s, gericht naar het brede publiek en met aandacht voor vergeten parels van eigen bodem.
In 2014 verscheen hun eerste album met hedendaagse werken van onder andere Vlaamse componisten zoals Piet Swerts, Erik Desimpelaere en Marc Matthys maar ook minder bekende muziekstukken van Edison Denisov, Paul Juon en Frank Bridge. In datzelfde jaar werden ze uitgenodigd om als solist het Triple Concertino uit te voeren van Alexander Tcherepnin samen met het orkest Stum und Klang (olv. Thomas van Haeperen) in de Muntschouwburg in Brussel.
In 2017 werkte het trio samen met ‘Kotjesvolk’ aan een nieuw project ‘Bericht aan de Bevolking’ ter herdenking van de Grote Oorlog. Dit interdisciplinair project resulteerde in een dubbel cd.
In 2021 brachten ze hun recentste album uit bij het label Etcetera Records met werken en wereldprimeurs van Bruggeling Joseph Ryelandt en Antwerpenaar Joseph Callaerts. De cd, genaamd ‘Late Romantic Piano Trios from Flanders’, werd tevens goed onthaald in kranten als de Standaard en is regelmatig op radiozender Klara te horen.
Enkele highlights van het komende seizoen zijn het opnemen van de pianokwintetten van Joseph Ryelandt & Karl Mestdagh en een tour doorheen Vlaanderen met projecten zoals ‘Ryelandt Trio plays Frank Zappa’ in BOZAR te Brussel, en een interdisciplinair project in samenwerking met Thomas Blondelle, getiteld ‘Liefs, Beethoven’ in de Stadsschouwburg van Brugge.
The Ryelandt Trio, formerly known as Trio Telepatico, was founded in 2009 in Bruges, Belgium. The trio quickly gained recognition, winning numerous first prizes, including the Vlamo Competition, the European Music Festival for Youth, and the Belfius Classics Competition. Recently, they secured the first prize at the Concours International Léopold Bellan in France and the second prize at the France Music Competition. In 2022, they also received the audience award at the Supernova Competition.
Their musical style is heavily influenced by renowned musicians and ensembles such as the Arco Baleno Ensemble, Storioni Trio, Benjamin Glorieux, Claire Chevallier, and Guy Danel. As soloists, they were invited to perform Alexander Tcherepnin’s Triple Concerto with the Sturm und Klang Orchestra, conducted by Thomas van Haeperen, at the Théâtre de La Monnaie in Brussels.
In 2014, their debut CD featuring works by Frank Bridge, Edison Denisov, Paul Juon, and Flemish contemporary composers Erik Desimpelaere, Piet Swerts, and Marc Matthys was released. This album received critical acclaim and garnered frequent airplay on the National Classical Radio ‘Klara.’ In 2017, as part of the commemoration of The Great War, the ensemble participated in the “Message to the Population” project, performing emotionally moving music alongside Kotjesvolk. The recorded performance was released on a double CD.
The Ryelandt Trio places significant importance on Belgian music. In 2021, they released their latest album on the Etcetera Records label, featuring the complete late-romantic piano trio repertoire of Joseph Ryelandt and Joseph Callaerts. For this project, they adopted a historically informed approach, playing on gut strings and an Erard piano from 1898. The album, titled “Late Romantic Piano Trios from Flanders,” received positive reviews from critics, including those from newspapers like De Standaard.
In the near future, the trio plans to record a new album featuring contemporary music by composers such as Jasper Charlet and Robert Groslot. Groslot has composed a new piece dedicated to the Ryelandt Trio, titled ‘La Fenice.’ Additionally, they are currently working on a new project featuring songs arranged for piano trio and singer. The trio is also intensively exploring new Baroque repertoire and has upcoming performances scheduled at various venues in Belgium.
