    Samuel Van de Velde werd geboren in Belsele op 23 januari 1998 als jongste zoon in een gezin van vier muzikale broers. Net als zijn broers begon hij piano te spelen toen hij zes was. Zijn vader, die leraar is aan de Muziekacademie van Sint-Niklaas en het Lemmensinstituut, was zijn eerste leraar. Het werd al snel duidelijk dat hij een bijzonder talent had door het behalen van verschillende prijzen op nationale en internationale wedstrijden. Zo werd hij eerste laureaat van enkele wedstrijden: Cantabile (2X), de Nationale pianowedstrijd Cavatine te Namen. Hij behaalde ook de tweede en derde prijs op de Rotary Breughel wedstrijd en werd hij finalist van de Concours international de Jeunes Pianistes EPTA. Op 10 jarige leeftijd werd hij toegelaten aan de Koningin Elisabeth Muziekkapel om er te studeren bij Abdel Rahman El Bacha en Dimitris Saroglou. Hij volgde masterclasses bij Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden en Dimitri Bashkirov, Markus Groh, Lars Vogt, Bernd Goetzke en Alfredo Perl. In 2010 werd hij uitgenodigd om als solist met het symfonisch jeugdorkest van Limburg het 12e concerto van Mozart te brengen en in 2012 het 2e pianoconcerto van Dmitri Sjostakovitch in de Blauwe Zaal van Desingel in Antwerpen. In 2015 behaalde hij een 1ste prijs op de Belfius-Classics wedstrijd, waardoor hij mocht optreden met het 1ste pianoconcerto van Liszt in de Muntschouwburg, samen met het orkest ‘Prima la Musica.

    Samuel studeerde in het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel bij Jan Michiels, waar hij in 2020 zijn master behaalde summa cum laude, waarvoor hij de prijs Horlait Dapsens in ontvangst mocht nemen. In 2019 vormde hij het klarinettrio de Staël waarmee hij de hoogste score haalde voor kamermuziek en het conservatorium van Brussel mocht vertegenwoordigen op het internationale prestigieuze ECAL festival in Leipzig. Daarnaast studeert hij ook bij Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden in de school Eduardo Del Pueyo.

    Samen met zijn broer richtte hij ook het festival Pianofest te Sint-Niklaas op, waarvan de 3e editie binnenkort plaatsvindt. In 2020 studeert Samuel in de Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wenen bij prof. Christine Karajeva. Samuel geeft ook vaak concerten kamermuziek met zijn broers in binnen-en buitenland.

    Sinds 2021 studeert Samuel in de Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in de klas van Aleksandar Madzar.


    Samuel Van de Velde was born in Belsele on January 23, 1998 as the youngest son in a family of four musical brothers. Like his brothers, he started playing the piano when he was six. His father, who is a teacher at the Sint-Niklaas Music Academy and the Lemmens Institute, was his first teacher. It soon became clear that he had a special talent by winning several prizes at national and international competitions. He became the first laureate of several competitions: Cantabile (2X), the National Piano Competition Cavatine in Namur. He also won second and third prizes at the Rotary Breughel competition and became a finalist of the Concours international de Jeunes Pianistes EPTA. At the age of 10 he was admitted to the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel to study with Abdel Rahman El Bacha and Dimitris Saroglou. He attended masterclasses with Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden and Dimitri Bashkirov, Markus Groh, Lars Vogt, Bernd Goetzke and Alfredo Perl. In 2010 he was invited as a soloist with the symphonic youth orchestra of Limburg to perform Mozart’s 12th concerto and in 2012 the 2nd piano concerto by Dmitri Sjostakovitch in the Blauwe Zaal van Desingel in Antwerp. In 2015 he won a 1st prize at the Belfius-Classics competition, which allowed him to perform with the 1st piano concerto by Liszt in the Muntschouwburg, together with the orchestra “Prima la Musica”. Samuel studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Jan Michiels, where he obtained his master’s degree summa cum laude in 2020, for which he received the Horlait Dapsens prize.

    In 2019 he formed the clarinet trio de Staël with which he obtained the highest score for chamber music and was allowed to represent the Brussels Conservatory at the international prestigious ECAL festival in Leipzig. He also studies with Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden at the Eduardo Del Pueyo school. Together with his brother, he also founded the Pianofest festival in Sint-Niklaas, the 3rd edition of which will take place soon. In 2020, Samuel will study at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Prof. Christine Karajeva. Samuel also often gives chamber music concerts with his brothers at home and abroad.

    Since 2021, Samuel has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in the class of Aleksandar Madzar.
