    Sergei Redkin, geboren in 1991, is afkomstig uit Krasnojarsk in Siberië. Hij begon met pianostudies op zesjarige leeftijd aan de State Music Academy en volgde ook al op jonge leeftijd improvisatie en compositie.

    In 2004 verhuisde hij naar Sint-Petersburg waar hij begon te studeren aan het Conservatorium van Sint-Petersburg, aanvankelijk in de speciale school voor hoogbegaafden. Vanaf 2009 werd hij een reguliere student in de klas van Alexander Sandler.

    Hij vervolgde zijn compositiestudies bij Alexander Mnatsakanyan, een van de laatste leerlingen van Sjostakovitsj. Met een beurs van het House of Music in Sint-Petersburg nam Sergei vanaf 2011 verscheidene keren deel aan de International Piano Academy Lake Como waar hij samenwerkte met musici als Dmitri Bashkirov, Peter Frankl en Fou Ts’ong. Hij won de ‘International Maj Lind Piano Competition’ in Helsinki in 2012, de ‘International Prokofiev Competition’ in Sint-Petersburg in 2013 en de bronzen Medaille op de ‘Internationale Tsjaikovskiwedstrijd’ in Moskou in 2015.

    Valeri Gergiev vroeg hem vervolgens om op te treden met het Mariinsky Orchestra in Parijs, New York en Mexico, en nodigde hem uit om deel te nemen aan een ‘Prokofiev Marathon’, in het kader van zijn ‘MPHIL 360° Festival’ in München, waar Redkin in november 2016 de laatste twee pianosonates van de componist speelde.

    Hij trad op in recitals en als kamermusicus, niet alleen in Moskou, Sint-Petersburg en diverse andere Russische steden, maar ook in Duitsland, Oostenrijk, Frankrijk, Polen, Finland, Zweden en Zwitserland. Hoogtepunten van het seizoen 2016-17 waren o.m. optredens in de Weense Hofburg, het National Auditorium of Music in Madrid, het Théâtre des Variétés in Monaco en het prestigieuze ‘Lucerne Festival’ in Zwitserland.

    Hij studeerde in de Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth met Louis Lortie sinds 2017.

    In 2021 won Sergei de tweede prijs bij de ‘Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd voor piano’.


    Sergei Redkin, born in 1991, is from Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. He began piano studies at the age of six at the State Music Academy and also took up improvisation and composition at an early age.

    In 2004 he moved to Saint Petersburg where he started studying at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, initially in the special school for the gifted. As of 2009, he became a regular student in Alexander Sandler’s class.

    He continued his composition studies with Alexander Mnatsakanyan, one of Shostakovich’s last students. With a scholarship from the House of Music in Saint Petersburg, Sergei has participated several times since 2011 at the International Piano Academy Lake Como, where he has collaborated with musicians such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Peter Frankl and Fou Ts’ong. He won the ‘International Maj Lind Piano Competition’ in Helsinki in 2012, the ‘International Prokofiev Competition’ in Saint Petersburg in 2013 and the bronze medal at the ‘International Tchaikovsky Competition’ in Moscow in 2015.

    Valeri Gergiev then asked him to perform with the Mariinsky Orchestra in Paris, New York and Mexico, and invited him to participate in a ‘Prokofiev Marathon’, as part of his ‘MPHIL 360° Festival’ in Munich, where Redkin played the composer’s last two piano sonatas in November 2016.

    He has performed in recitals and as a chamber musician not only in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and various other Russian cities, but also in Germany, Austria, France, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland. Highlights of the 2016-17 season included performances at Vienna’s Hofburg, the National Auditorium of Music in Madrid, the Théâtre des Variétés in Monaco and the prestigious ‘Lucerne Festival’ in Switzerland.

    He studied in the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Louis Lortie since 2017. In 2021, Sergei won second prize at the ‘Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition’.
