Met meer dan 40 concerten per jaar, als ECHO Risting Stars 2023-2024 en als prijswinnaar van de
Bartók World Competition 2021 in Boedapest bewijst het Sonoro Quartet één van meest belovende en
toonaangevende strijkkwartetten te zijn van hun generatie.
In 2022 werd het Sonoro Quartet, genomineerd door Bozar Brussels, geselecteerd als ECHO Rising
Stars voor het seizoen 2023/2024. Als deel hiervan touren ze met 17 concerten in de meest prestigieuze
zalen van Europa.
Het kwartet maakt deel uit van het MERITA Platform waarmee ze in 2023-2024 concerten spelen
doorheen Europa met een gloednieuwe productie.
In 2023 maakt het Sonoro Quartet hun debuut in zalen zoals Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein
Vienna, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Kölner Philharmonie, Philharmonie de Luxembourg en vele andere.
In juli 2023 maakten ze hun debuut in Nieuw-Zeeland met 11 concerten doorheen het hele land.
In oktober 2021 won het Sonoro Quartet de derde prijs en twee speciale prijzen op de Bartók World
Competition for String Quartet. Ze lieten een grote indruk na op zowel het publiek als de jury. Sindsdien
worden ze geregeld gevraagd in Hongarije met Bartók’s strijkkwartetten op plaatsen zoals het Bartók
Memorial House en het Auer Festival.
Momenteel studeert het kwartet aan de Nederlandse Strijkkwartet Academie (NSKA) in Amsterdam
waar ze les volgen bij gerenommeerde docenten zoals Marc Danel en Gilles Millet (Quatuor Danel),
Daniel Rowland en Eberhard Feltz. Daarnaast volgde het kwartet ook lessen bij leden van het Ebène
Quartet, Pavel Haas Quartet, Gary Hoffman en Heime Müller, oprichter van het Artemis Quartet.
Met concerten in België, Nederland, Zwitserland, Duitsland, Hongarije en Ierland toont het kwartet,
opgericht in 2019, hun waarde in het nationale en internationale cultuurlandschap. Met repertoire van
de klassieke grootmeesters tot hedendaagse componisten speelde het kwartet in tal van grote zalen zoals
de Bijloke in Gent, Bozar in Brussel, Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht, The National Concert Hall in
Dublin, Liszt Academy en Bartók Memorial House in Boedapest, Desingel in Antwerpen en was reeds
te gast op grote festivals zoals Festival Midis-Minimes, The Young Generation Bozar, B-Classic,
Storioni Festval, West Cork Chamermusic Festival, Rotterdam Chamber Music Society en vele andere.
Het Sonoro Quartet zal in de herfst van 2023 opnieuw touren door Ierland als onderdeel van de National
String Quartet Foundation.
Het kwartet maakte opnames voor radiozenders zoals Klara, RTE Ierland, Bartók Radio Boedapest en
SWR Duitsland, waar ze het strijkkwartet opnamen van Eric Domenech als deel van het Beethovenfest
2020 in Bonn.
In 2022 werden ze geselecteerd als één van de 10 strijkkwartetten voor de prestigieuze wedstrijd Banff
International String Quartet Competition 2022, maar moesten zich terugtrekken wegens een blessure.
Het Sonoro Quartet wordt financieel ondersteund door vzw SWUK Vl.
Founded in 2019, Sonoro Quartet is one of the leading young string quartets of its generation. Hailing from
France, Ireland and Belgium and performing over 40 concerts annually, their repertoire encompasses
classical masterpieces alongside works and commissions by contemporary composers.
In 2022, Sonoro Quartet was chosen as ECHO Rising Stars for the 2023-2024 season, embarking on a
concert tour that includes 17 performances in leading European halls. The quartet has also been selected to
join the MERITA Platform, where they will present concerts throughout Europe featuring an innovative
artistic project.
In 2023, they will make their debuts at Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein Vienna, Elbphilharmonie
Hamburg, Kölner Philharmonie and Philharmonie de Luxembourg amongst other prominent venues. In July
2023, they made their debut in New Zealand performing 11 concerts in venues across North and South
Islands.
In October 2021, the Sonoro Quartet received the 3rd prize and two special prizes at the Bartók World
Competition for String Quartets in Budapest. Their energy, dynamic interpretation and musical maturity
left a lasting impression on the audience and the jury. Sonoro has since returned to Budapest to perform
Bartók’s Quartets in the Bartók Memorial House.In 2022, they were selected as one of the participating quartets in the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition, but had to withdraw due to injury.
The quartet is currently studying at the Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA) in Amsterdam,
receiving guidance from renowned artists such as Marc Danel and Gilles Millet (Quatuor Danel) and
Eberhard Feltz. They have also studied with members of Quatuor Ébène, Pavel Haas Quartet, Belcea Quartet,
and Artemis Quartet.
The quartet has performed at festivals such as Festival Midis-Minimes, B-Classic, Storioni Festival, West Cork
Chamber Music Festival and Rotterdam Chamber Music Society, amongst many others. In autumn 2023, they
will tour Ireland for the second time with the National String Quartet Foundation.
The Sonoro Quartet has recorded for international radio stations including Klara (Belgium), RTÉ (Ireland),
Bartók Radio Budapest, SWR (Germany) and Radio New Zealand. As part of the Beethoven Fest 2020 in
Bonn, they premiered Eric Domenech’s string quartet on SWR.
In 2024/25 they will record two albums including world premieres of Lucie Vellère, Joseph Ryelandt and
Karel Mestdagh.
