Toon Fret is bekend als fluitist van Oxalys en het Collectief, twee Belgische kamermuziekensembles met internationale uitstraling. Hij vormt sinds 2011 een duo met pianiste Veronika Iltchenko, met wie hij reeds 2 CDs opnam: Le temps retrouvé en Die Welt von Gestern.
Toon Fret genoot zijn opleiding als fluitist in Brussel, Maastricht, Parijs en Basel bij Gaby Van Riet, Michel Lefebvre, Barthold Kuijken, Ida Ribera en Peter-Lukas Graf. Zelf is hij professor fluit en kamermuziek aan het Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Liège, docent kamermuziek aan de Pôle d’Enseignement Supérieur de Musique de Bourgogne in Dijon en leraar fluit aan het Stedelijk Conservatorium van Leuven.
Toon is als fluitist en traversospeler actief in diverse ensembles en orkesten in binnen- en buitenland. Hij concerteerde op de belangrijkste podia in Europa, Amerika en Azië. Zijn meer dan twintig cd-opnames werden enthousiast onthaald in diverse internationale tijdschriften als Diapason, Classica of BBC Music Magazine.
Toon Fret is known as the flutist of Oxalys and the Collectief, twe Belgian chamber music ensembles with an international reputation. Since 2011 he has formed a duo with pianist Veronika Iltchenko, with whom he has already recorded 2 CDs: Le temps retrouvé and Die Welt von Gestern.
Toon Fret attended his education as a flutist in Brussels, Maastricht, Paris and Basel with Gaby Van Riet, Michel Lefebvre, Barthold Kuijken, Ida Ribera and Peter-Lukas Graf. He is professor of flute and chamber music at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Liège, chamber music teacher at the Pôle d’Enseignement Supérieur de Musique de Bourgogne in Dijon and flute teacher at the Municipal Conservatory of Leuven.
Toon is active as a flutist and traverso player in various ensembles and orchestras at home and abroad. He has performed on the most important stages in Europe, America and Asia. His more than twenty CD recordings have been enthusiastically acclaimed in various international magazines such as Diapason, Classica or BBC Music Magazine.
