Van jongs af aan werkte David Abrahamyan samen met de Luxemburgse Philarmonic, OSPA in Oviedo in Spanje, Lagen Laden in Brussel, waar hij altviool solo was, en Salzburg Chamber Soloists onder de artistieke leiding van Lavard Skou Larsen. David nam in de Antwerpse Singel een dvd op met Schönbergs ‘Verklärte Nacht’, een samenwerkingsproject tussen Europa en Zuid-Korea. Tevens maakte hij twee cd’s voor de Nederlandse platenmaatschappij met de Nederlandse componist Wim Zwaag, die zijn Adagio for Viola aan hem opdroeg.

Georgi Anichenko werd geboren in Minsk, Wit-Rusland en begon op 5-jarige leeftijd cello te studeren aan het State Music College in Minsk in de klas van Vladimir Perlin. A Pocket Orchestra werd opgericht door contrabassist en componist José Reyes  in 2019.

Hij bewerkte grote orkestwerken voor een kamermuziek bezetting, precies zoals die ooit in de huiskamer gespeeld werden toen de werken net waren geschreven. Dit concept maakt het mogelijk om deze meesterwerken ook zonder een monumentaal orkest te programmeren. Het ensemble bestaat uit solisten uit alle uithoeken van de wereld.

A Pocket Orchestra was founded by double bassist and composer José Reyes in 2019.

He arranged large orchestral works for a chamber music setting, akin to those that were once performed in living rooms shortly after their composition. This concept enables the programming of these masterpieces without the need for a monumental orchestra. The ensemble comprises soloists from around the world.

Hrachya Avanesyan werd in Armenië geboren en verhuisde naar België toen hij zeventien  was. Hij studeerde aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussel onder leiding van Igor Oistrakh en vervolgde zijn opleiding aan de Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth bij Augustin Dumay en aan de Keulse Hochschule bij Mihaela Martin. Tijdens zijn studies aan de Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth maakte hij zich vertrouwd met kamermuziek onder leiding van het Artemis Quartet.

Avanesyan won eerste prijzen op de wedstrijden Yehudi Menuhin en Carl Nielsen.

Barbara Baltussen (°1982) groeide op in een muzikale familie en begon op zevenjarige leeftijd piano te spelen aan de Stedelijke Academie voor Muziek, Woord en Dans te Sint-Niklaas in de klas van Johan Lybeert. Hierna vervolgde ze haar studies aan het Koninklijk Vlaams Conservatorium te Antwerpen, in de klas van Levente Kende en Heidi Henderickx, waar zij haar diploma “meester in muziek” behaalde in juni 2006. Ze studeerde tevens aan het conservatorium van Amsterdam in de klas van Dhr. Jan Wijn.

Daarnaast nam Barbara deel aan verschillende masterclasses bij internationaal gerenommeerde musici zoals Jacob Lateiner, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Lee Kum-Sing, György Kurtàg, Charles Rosen, Udo Reinemann, Jard Van Nes, Rudolf Jansen, Rian De Waal e.a. Barbara is laureate van verschillende wedstrijden, waaronder Jong Tenuto, Cantabile, Axion Classics, E. Durletwedstrijd, …

Als soliste werkte zij samen met dirigenten als Etienne Siebens, Koen Kessels, Ivo Venkov, Silveer van den Broeck, Gert D’haese en Edmond Saveniers. Ze werkte tevens met ensembles en orkesten als het Brussels Philharmonic, het Vlaams Radio Koor, Octopus Symfonisch Koor, Walpurgis muziektheater e.a.

Barbara kiest er bewust voor om zich als pianiste, in een wereld waar de mogelijkheden zeer divers zijn, niet in één domein te specialiseren, maar om als muzikante zo breed mogelijk actief te zijn op verschillende terreinen. Op die manier ontstaat er een constante kruisbestuiving tussen die verschillende domeinen.

Zo werkt ze als docente piano in de academie voor Muziek, Woord en Dans van Bornem, en in de Kunsthumaniora van Brussel. Daarnaast is ze een veelgevraagde begeleidster op free-lance basis, en heeft ze een actief concertleven als kamermusicus en soliste. Ze is tevens ook aangesteld in het Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel als begeleidster.

Als soliste werkte ze ook een soloprogramma uit met werk van enkel vrouwelijke componisten en trad hiermee op in diverse concertzalen en festivals, zoals het internationaal pianofestival te Quaregnon in 2010. In juni 2014 creëerde Barbara het eerste pianoconcerto voor piano en ensemble van de jonge beloftevolle componist Gillis Sacré, dat aan haar werd opgedragen. Frank Nuyts componeerde in 2018 zijn 24ste en laatste pianosonate voor haar – ‘where the trail becomes a trace’- en deze zette ze op cd in januari 2019 (verschenen bij Hardscore Records)

Barbara is stichtend lid van Trio Khaldei en vormt tevens een begeesterend duo met haar vader Nico Baltussen.

Noah Bendix-Balgley is eerste concertmeester van de Berliner Philharmoniker en toert als kamermuzikant en als solist. Zijn persoonlijke geluid ontroerde luisteraars wereldwijd. Noah, geboren in Asheville, North Carolina, begon als vierjarige met viool spelen. Toen hij negen was speelde hij voor Lord Yehudi Menuhin. Noah Bendix-Balgley is principal concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker and tours as a chamber musician and as a soloist. His personal sound moved listeners worldwide. In the 2022/23 season, Noah made his concert debut at Carnegie Hall, performing as soloist on the Berlin Philharmonic USA tour conducted by Kirill Petrenko. The season also included his debuts with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and ProMusica Columbus, as well as a return to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, where he was concertmaster from 2011 to 2015. Recent highlights include concerto performances with the philharmonic orchestras of Berlin, Dresden, Auckland, Nagoya and Oklahoma City. He has performed with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestras of Utah, Pittsburgh, Quebec, Shanghai and Guangzhou. He toured with Apollo’s Fire Orchestra on period instruments, performed the Brahms Double Concerto with Alisa Weilerstein and the Aspen Music Festival Orchestra, toured with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and gave recitals at the Philharmonie Berlin, Beethoven-Haus Bonn, the National Forum of Music in Wrocław and the National Concert Hall in Taipei.

Noah is a renowned interpreter of traditional klezmer music and has given klezmer workshops. In 2016, Noah premiered his own klezmer violin concerto, Fidl-Fantazye, with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, followed later by the chamber orchestra version.

Noah performs in various chamber music ensembles, in a trio with pianist Robert Levin and cellist Peter Wiley, with the Rosamunde String Quartet with members of the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonics and with the multi-genre septet Philharmonix, with members of both the Berlin and the New York Philharmonics. In 2022 he released his third album on DeutscheGrammophon.

Gina Beukes liep school in Johannesburg en studeerde viool bij Alan Solomon.

Sinds 1975 werd ze gaandeweg bekend als één van Zuid-Afrika’s meest getalenteerde jonge violistes en begon als soliste met vooraanstaande orkesten van het land op te treden. Ze toerde met het National Youth Orchestra in 1978 en gedurende het volgende jaar werd ze uitgekozen om het International Youth Orchestra te leiden op het Aberdeen Festival in Schotland. In 1981 reisde ze door Taiwan als Concertmeester van de Harmonia Juventia en dirigeerde het Johannesburg Youth Chamber Orchestra.

Ze kreeg verscheidene beurzen en mede dankzij een sponsor kon ze haar studies verder zetten in de VS. Met een Starling Scholarship financierde ze haar studies in Cincinnati bij Dorothy Delay. In 1983 won ze de Cincinnati Concerto Competition. Gina speelt kamermuziek in Engeland en Frankrijk met het Barbican Quartet en het Defoe Trio.

Aan de Juilliard School speelde ze in een strijkkwartet met cellist Jean-Guihen Queras. In Zuid-Afrika leidde ze de top kamermuziek groep, het Impromptu Trio. Ze leidt ze het Barbican Quartet met cellist Moray Welsh, solo cellist van het London Symphony Orchestra.

Momenteel is Gina eerste solist altviool bij het symfonisch orkest van Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.

She received her doctorate from the University of Cincinnati in 1991 until she returned to South Africa in 1992 to take on the role of Concertmaster of the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra. She continued to play recitals and concertos.

In 1994 she toured several times with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Later that year she was appointed solo second violinist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In those years she also worked with the well-known conductors Solti, Haitink, Jansens, Weltzer-Most, Mazur, Baremboim, Termikanov and many others. In 2003 she was appointed violinist with the London Symphony Orchestra with Valeri Gergiev as principal conductor.

Gina plays chamber music in England and France with the Barbican Quartet and the Defoe Trio.
At the Juilliard School she played in a string quartet with cellist Jean-Guihen Queras. In South Africa she led the top chamber music group, the Impromptu Trio. She leads the Barbican Quartet with cellist Moray Welsh, principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Andreas Brantelid werd in 1987 in Kopenhagen geboren uit Zweeds/Deense ouders. Hij kreeg zijn eerste lessen van zijn vader Ingemar en maakte zijn solodebuut op 14-jarige leeftijd in een uitvoering van het Elgar-concerto met het Koninklijk Deens Orkest. Tegenwoordig is Andreas een van de meest gewilde artiesten uit Scandinavië en wint hij wereldwijde lovende kritieken voor zijn vermogen om de muziek niet alleen te laten klinken, maar ook te laten spreken, dansen en zingen.

Hoogtepunten van recente orkestoptredens had hij met het London Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony, BBC Symphony en BBC Philharmonic Orchestras, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, en veel andere, evenals met alle grote orkesten van de Scandinavische landen. In addition, he embarks on a large recital tour with Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid and Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland. Solo recitals will lead him to Bruges and Kristianstad. The 2017/2018 season saw his debuts as a soloist with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Stuttgart Radio Symphony, Berlin Radio Symphony, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, and the Iceland Philharmonic, as well as an extensive China tour together with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in December 2017. Chamber music performances brought him to the Beethovenfest Bonn, the BOZAR in Brussels, Bergen Festival, and BR Klassik radio in Munich among other things performing all cello sonatas by Beethoven with Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland.

Among the musicians who inspired and strongly influenced Andreas are pianist Bengt Forsberg and violinist Nils-Erik Sparf, both of whom Andreas has played with since 2002 in different chamber music formats. Elina Buksha is een Letse concertvioliste die door The Strad Magazine wordt beschreven als “vermogen tot fantasie en verhalen vertellen”, en “zeer overtuigend in technische behendigheid en individualiteit”. Ze was de winnaar van de Kulturkreis Gasteig Musikpreis 2019 in München en in 2020 werd ze geselecteerd om deel uit te maken van de selectie van City Music Foundation Artists in Londen.

Ze trad op in tal van grote concertzalen, waaronder de Wigmore Hall in Londen, het Auditorium du Louvre in Parijs, de Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, het Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussel en de Tsjaikovski Concert Hall in Moskou. Ze werd uitgenodigd op festivals als het Festival de Wallonie (België), het International Music Festival in Yaroslavl (geregisseerd door Yuri Bashmet), Rheingau Musik Festival (Duitsland), Rencontres Musicales d’Évian (Frankrijk) en het Marvao International Music Festival , en andere.

Elina Buksha is a Latvian concert violinist described by The Strad Magazine as having “capacity for fantasy and storytelling”, and being “highly persuasive in technical agility and individuality”. She has performed in such festivals as the Festival de Wallonie (Belgium), the International Music Festival in Yaroslavl (directed by Yuri Bashmet), Rheingau Musik Festival (Germany), Rencontres Musicales d’Évian (France), and the Marvao International Music Festival, among others.

She has continued her studies with the renowned violinist Midori and has benefitted from masterclasses with Ana Chumachenco.

Alongside her career as a concert soloist, Elina is interested in the interplay of sound and smell, and is curating a project centred on music and perfume.

Elina plays a Vincenzo Panormo violin from 1800, generously on loan from the Harrison Frank Foundation.
